This marathon is one of the best small marathons I have had the pleasure to run. There was at least one water stop per mile, totally unheard of in small marathons. It was a hilly course, but the hills were small, predictable, rolling... just perfect! Lots of food and drinks at the end. In 2006 the weather was perfect, cool and sunny! Very well organized. Thanks for the Arkansas hospitality and experience!

I am 14 and haven't run many, but this had to be one of the hardest courses I have ever completed. But it was fun and they had water stations everywhere (but I only ran the half marathon). The spectators were also nice except for the college kids "that looked like they never ran a mile in there life" who tried to give me a beer. My calves were killing me after the race - I couldn't walk, so my dad had to carry me to the car.

This one has a lot of rolling hills. It helps me use different muscles throughout. The hill at the finish is challenging, but if you save some for the finish you are passing others. What a blast. I drive 425 miles each way to run this one. It is one of my annual marathons. I love it.

I ran the half marathon this year (did the full marathon in 1992). I don't recall the '92 marathon being as difficult as this half-marathon course. The very difficult uphill finish was a bit demoralizing, but there were some nice rolling hills outside of town.
The traffic control was almost non-existent, which is somewhat understandable given the size of this race. However, you should probably increase your insurance, because most of the drivers along the course were incredibly rude. I watched one jerk almost run down a volunteer that what was trying to direct traffic.
Overall, a very challenging course. Given the weather for this year, I was grateful I wasn't running the full marathon.

H is for 'Hogeye' and H is for 'Hilly' and no mention of one should be complete without the other. H is also for 'Hometown,' and if you want an experience where you're treated well, then this triple-H combination is for you.
This is not a flat course. Let me repeat. It's not flat. With significant hills over first and last seven miles, including a mile-long devil for mile 25, you will not run a PR here. You will also not have significant company on the course.
But the ones you will see are the best of the best. Even the driving, sometimes blinding rain, couldn't keep the volunteers from staffing the water stations. Even the Fayetteville Fire Department pitched in at a water stop.
If you stay at the host hotel, the start, finish and packet pickup barely require a step outside. The post-race massage, which had no wait time, was better and longer than some paid massages I've experienced in the past.
Want a flat cattle-call? Do Chicago. Want a well-organized, challenging race that's full of heart? The Hilly Hogeye is for you.

The hospitality in Fayetteville was great. Organization was good. The hills were a bitch, especially at 24 miles. (I guess it used to be even worse.) Still, I'm glad I made the nine hour drive to run this marathon - its #13 in my quest for the 50 States club.
Would I run it again? Probably not.

Fayetteville is a beautiful place to visit. Lots of places to stay, eat and close to some nice sight-seeing nearby! Going into this marathon, I knew that it was going to be tough with lots of big hills. I also ran another marathon the day prior so I decided to try my best, but not expect too much time-wise.
Even with the heavy rain and hills, I truly enjoyed the company of the other runners. A lot of the runners kept a pace that allowed for talking and it kept me encouraged to keep on. It was a small marathon (in numbers) and we started with the half marathoners. The out-and-back course also helped to keep in touch with other runners as we started getting strung out over the last miles of the course, either seeing them coming back, or seeing other runners going out to the turn-around. Only negative to me was that some of the course is run with traffic. I mean lots of cars with little shoulder to run on.
If you're looking for a marathon challenge, do this one!

This is an out-and-back course. The first and last 3 miles are a real bear. Lots of hills. The middle 20 is mostly rolling terrain. A big rainstorm rolled through about the time we got to the 5 mile mark, and rain stayed with us most of the rest of the race. Made for some really heavy shoes. Very few spectators, but I wouldn't have stood out there in that weather either. Very enthusiastic group at the finish line.
After finishing, I was escorted directly to the race HQ for a long massage. Found out later the escort was the race director. This is a small marathon (about 80 marathoners), but the organization is good, and they care.

I ran this marathon yesterday and had a wonderful experience!! I've run 11 marathons and this was by far the toughest! The course was beautiful, there were water stops approximately every mile, the volunteers were great, the medal is one of the best and it was well organized! Fayetteville is a wonderful city! There is nothing negative about this race unless you don't like hills. I would definitely rank this as one of my favorites and I will do it again. There aren't many spectators but the ones that are there are awesome! An added benefit; the race is for a great cause: The Children's Safety Center.

Not used to running hills and had never run in the rain. I ran the 1/2 marathon and it was great but my hips are hurting now. The volunteers that supported the race were great, there just weren't very many. Not many runners either which made it more like a training run, alone. The scenery was beautiful and it was a wonderful time of year to be running even with the rain. It was not cold so it was a pleasant experience. They could use a few more portalets on the route, but they had plenty of water and Gatorade!!
