This was my third (and toughest)Flying Pig Marathon. If someone wants a fabulously organized race, from the volunteers, route, water stops, goodie bag, expo, etc. this is the one for you. Even though it was hotter than &^%$ and it took me 5 hours 20 minutes to finish I'm looking forward to my 4th PIG in 2002!

Another FANTASTIC year for the PIG (about: 2001)

This was my 3rd running of the PIG and 6th marathon overall. The organization, expo, goodies, tshirt, fantastic volunteers, big crowds make this one a must do. It was better than Chicago, Marine Corp, or Disney!! Be ready for some hills. Great improvement to the course this year. Hats off to the race organizers and the people of Cincinnati. I'll be back for the 4th annual PIG next year, cant wait.

This marathon is very well organized. (about: 2001)

They can't seem to decide on the course route for some reason. The course in 1999 was great, but they changed it because of insufficient space in the finish line area. In 2000 the course was slower, but the race was put on well once again. They get a lot of first time marathoners, so the field isn't especially strong overall.
If you want to have fun in a race that is well organized, The Pig is your marathon. Nice shirt, goodie bag, etc.

If you think Pigs don't fly...do this Marathon! (about: 2000)

A Runner from Cincinnati (4/10/01)

In 2000, there was about 6 miles of hills of varying grades...in 2001, there is about 5 miles of hills to navigate...it's fun and it will challenge most runners...the 2001 course takes you through more parts of the city than the 2000 course...since this is a local marathon, a friend and I always drive the course ahead of race day...come to Cincinnati and run the Pig!

Tell everyone they must do the PIG ! (about: 2000)

A Runner from Chicago (3/17/01)

Last May's Pig was my second Marathon, but since then, I have done two more, and it's still my favorite over Chicago, Marine Corps, and Vegas. Cincy had the best Expo, organization, sufficient crowds, the coolest medal and the best postrace gathering possible ! Hats off to all who worked the race ! I tell all my training partners you must run the PIG !!

Overall, a great marathon to run! (about: 2000)

This was my first marathon I ran and didn't have much to compare it to until I ran another. Boy is the Pig a great marathon! The crowds are great and the volunteers were fab! I also like that the marathon is not too crowded like Chicago. I highly recommend this marathon.
p.s. be prepared for some hills!

Best ever for customer service to its runners. (about: 2000)

Of all the races and marathons I've done, this marathon was the best at being organized and giving wonderful support and customer service to its runners. The finish was exceptionally well organized and a fun place to hang out for the whole family.

Down home fun! (General Comments)

I used to live in Cincinnati but moved to D.C. before the Pig's debut in 99'. Despite the fact that I'm over 500 miles away now, I road-tripped back to Cinti for both runnings of the Pig and will continue to do so as long as my body will let me. It's incredibly well-organized and the crowds and water stops are great. I've also run the Marine Corps Marathon the past two years but prefer Cincinnati because of its more personal feel. See you in 2001...I'm already signed up!

One of the Best (General Comments)

The 2nd Annual Flying Pig Marathon was my 122nd marathon, so I think I'm qualified to comment on this race! The Flying Pig was everything they promised and more. From the great goodies, including a very nice backpack with the Pig logo, to the expo with the Penguin and the marathon world record holder, to the wonderful police and citizens of Cincinnati, this race is tops. I enjoyed by first Flying Pig, as did my wife, who also ran. I only wish I had run the 1st race last year.
Make the Flying Pig a MUST DO in 2001.

The 1999 inaugural run was amazingly organized. (about: 1999)

The Pig was my second marathon and I was very impressed with the organization of it. The course was a good overview of the city and surrounding areas but there were parts of it that went through more industrial parts which meant little to no spectators. On the other hand, some parts of the city, Hyde Park Square for example, were overflowing with people and signs and support. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience - so much so that I am doing it again this May. I would recommend this marathon to anyone - just be prepared for the hills.
