Very well organized. Expo was outstanding-speakers very helpful for a newcomer.
Course was challenging without being daunting, late hills were a killer though.
Lots of spectators and support with ample water, ade, gel, fruit, etc.
Kudos to organizers for reading past complaints and fixing problems.

Wow! Beautiful weather (maybe a little on the warm side), Great organization (organizers listened to last years complaints and made substantial positive changes), who can complain about the sceanary around White Rock Lake? My only issue with this run is those darn Dolly Parton hills that seem to bite you hard after the relatively flat 1st half of the race. This was my second White Rock run and I will be back next year! Good job Dallas!

Great race!! Much better organization and a lot more fun than prior races. Fan participation increased. The many bands on the course really helped as well. Weather....perfect. Folks from up north should really keep their eyes on this race. Dallas is a great destination and we now have a great late fall marathon. All we need now is a corporate sponsor who wants naming rights so we can get more cash behind this race. Kudos to all involved!

I have run 6 marathons including San Diego & Marine Corps, The race organization at the Rock beats them all. Friendly volunteers help you find plenty of food. Dallas can't compete with the scenery of some races but has a great course. The crowds are the best at the Marine Corps but this is a great race which I'll run again!

I have run 7 marathons, big & small, including San Diego & Marine Corps, The post-race organization at White Rock beats them all. Great food and plenty of it, friendly volunteers, big signs to direct you when you're really tired, and beer!
A few modifications, like opening up the entire American Airlines Center before and after the race for comfort, and this would be perfect.
Thanks for a great race!

The starting location was new at the AA arena which made it a little confusing w/ some roads to access the complex being closed. My major complaint was that they didn't have any organization at the beginning to allow runners to line-up with their pace...so you have a lot of slow runners/walkers mixed in with the faster runners. This is only a problem for the 1st mile, then things are all cleared up. The chips where a great improvement and the neighborhoods are 2nd only to the Chicago Marathon experience.

I ran the 2001 version of the White Rock marathon hoping for good weather after running a marathon in very hot weather in October. I was not disappointed. The weather was perfect. The starting temperature was 35° degrees, clear skies, low humidity. The temperature when I finished was around 50°.
The course was great going through some some nice neighborhoods at the beginning. The ten miles around the lakes did seem a little long. There is a continuous incline from Mile 19-21 which zapped my energy, but overall the course was not too difficult.
The organization at the beginning of the race was substandard. Despite the fact that there was a new arena at the start, runners were not allowed in to get warm. It was 35° outside. We were able to sneak in with the late registrants. The people in the arena were very rude. The post-race activities were nothing to write home about either.
Despite these inconveniences, I thoroughly enjoyed running the race.

The finish line had NO MEDALS, no water, no food, no blankets and no support staff. What more do you need to know?

It was my fifth Dallas marathon. The finish line at American Airlines Building was a big mistake. Please change it to the previous one. The after-race breakfest was very poor in quality and the place very uncomfortable. Come back to 1990's course, finish line and organization.
Congratulations for the chip!

What a nice course! It was relatively flat overall, and besides circling White Rock Lake, ran through interesting and pretty neighborhoods, (read: no industrial areas!). The crowds were a bit sparse, but were spread over the whole course and very enthusiastic. I can't possibly complain. There were lots of water stations. I also saw several porta-potties spread through the course.
The only problem I had was the finish, which was a bit confusing. There was no clear direction to lead confused runners from the immediate recovery area to the American Airlines Center where the food, massage, water, etc. was located. I got lost! Once I found it, everything was there, and in quantity.
The marathon has just changed directors, and they are in the process of tweaking the race into shape. I gotta cut them some slack. They did a nice job, I expect it will be even better next year.
This is a good marathon. I think I will likely run it again sometime.
