I have run the Houston Marathon four times and decided to try a new marathon and eventually decided on White Rock. To complicate matters, I was running for a PR and to qualify for Boston. I thought this was a tough run (especially 9 miles around the lake) but it was made much easier with the great spectators and aid stations. Plus, the other runners were so helpful. I achieved my goal and want to thank everyone that was out there running with me and pushing me, even during the last .2 miles!!

The Dallas White Rock marathon organizers obviously listen to feedback, because this year's race seemed much better than when I ran it in 2001. The main improvement was made by opening the American Airlines Center to runners before and after the event, and providing plenty of post-race refreshments inside. The course around White Rock Lake is beautiful, although the trip there and back contains several hills. Plenty of cheerful supporters and aid stations along the route. My only suggestion for improvement next year would be to include fresh fruit / bagels at the finish line, as it takes several minutes to maneuver through the crowd into the AA center.

Great start and finish. AA Center open before and after race!!!
Police at every intersection, but they could have done a better job letting traffic through the course route.
Organizers did a great job, they were very concerned about the runner. They tried their very best to correct problems of the past and they did it!!

What a great experience running Dallas. Everything about the weekend was first class all the way. Great expo, decent meal at the pasta party (along with listening to Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers speak), and wonderful community support on race day.
I fell in love with the aid station workers at the Dolly Parton Hills.
The only negative was that the street was a bit too narrow for the number of runners at the start, forcing some of us to run the sidewalk.
After the run we got finishers t-shirts and ball caps. The finish line was laid out very well.
There were ample portajohns, which is a must.
Overall a great run that I'd highly recommend to anyone.

This was my ninth marathon. The start was very nice and uplifting - fireworks!! Good crowd support, plenty of aid stations, hilarious Dolly Parton Look Alikes, bands and lots of encouraging signs along the course. Good event, just a few things could still be improved. Still need more food at the finish, and need to order size small jackets, sweatshirts, etc.

This is a really beautiful urban course that winds through down town Dallas and then it's' older neighborhoods until you get to White Rock Lake. After a 9 mile spin around the lake, you head back to the downtown area. The hills at mile 19 are gradual, but they get your attention especially if you have any propensity towards leg cramps...as many runners seemed to have. Great on-course entertainment if your into that stuff and great water and nutrition stations throughout the entire race course. Some of the residents even put out tables of goodies for the runners. I prefer smaller fields in simpler environments, but this is definitely a great and very comfortable race.

The White Rock marathon has everything: fireworks, music, spectators, scenic course. It is not, however, the best place to achieve a PR. There are some hills. No one I talked to was able to achieve their desired time. Many improvements were made over the 2001 race.

I ran the Rock Relay, and split it with a friend, so we each ran a 1/2. White Rock is an excellent race. The aide stations are wonderfully spaced, well stocked and packed with spectators. The race started and ended outside the American Airlines center. so people were able to use the facilities. and it was great because this morning was a particularly cold day in Dallas.
I will be back to this race again to run the marathon.
Thanks Dallas.

This was my third run with Whiterock. It has been better every time. A lot of greatwork by the volunteers. Well managed. The past dinner was great.
One point for improvement, probably the parking fee should be included with the entry fee as it is hard to remember to take any money to the marathon. I would rate this one at -A. It could have been an A but as I stated before parking fees and the short sleeve finisher's shirt could be and should be changed.
