We appreciate your interest in the 2013 "Running for the bay!" Marathon. We would love for you to join us!
Last year was a great race. 99% of runners/walkers loved it! We received many great e-mails and reviews after the race which is always appreciated. Many runners have made it an annual event.
Here are some changes we plan to implement for the 2013 "Running for the bay!" Marathon
RACE STRUCTURE:
- For 2013, the Running for the bay! Marathon will send out racers in waves. Race officials will let each group clear the start line before the next is announced; helping to eliminate any crowds on the bridges.
- For 2013, police officers will assist in street crossings for both the 10K and 5Ks. (There is really only one street to cross, the others are turns.)
-The "running lane" along the bridges is about 7-8 feet wide, which is plenty of room for running. However, there is about two miles in total where the road has approximately a two-foot paved shoulder (along a ten-to-twenty foot wide grass shoulder), by the time runners reach this area however they should easily be single file and spaced apart. For 2013, the race will add more cones in these areas to help keep runners and traffic apart.
ADDITIONAL IMPROVEMENTS:
-For 2013, the race plans to create a festive atmosphere at the finish line.
-For 2013, the race will have more water and power drinks on the course. Most importantly, race officials now know where the key points are for water placement.
-Mile markers: For 2013, the race will have a mile marker at each mile. The race will also make them bigger and more noticeable.
- Porta Potties: This year the race will have even more porta potties. We will also mark the porta potties so runners know they are for the runners.
- Additional Aid Stations will be added to assist w/ Band Aids, Vaseline, etc. and to summon emergency vehicles.
