Thanks to Gary and Nancy. The Lincoln lived up to expectations again this year, the 25th. Great time of year. Good support and more porta potties this year, good. Lincoln finishers get a finishing 'prize'. This year's being the 25th anniversary I had expected more than a key fob with no mention of the 25th. I do like the long sleeve shirt. The Pre-race free Pasta Thon the night before really sets this race apart. I recommend that you try the Lincoln, plan to have a good race and fun weekend.

This was my first marathon, but I can't imagine a race being better organized, more fun...It was fantastic. The course is great, the people along the way were awesome...Everyone was having a great time. I can see why there were runners from all 50 states.

Well organized, excellent volunteers (General Comments)

Nice flat course, well marked, well organized, plenty of friendly, encouraging volunteers. Good idea to start the marathon early at 7:00 since it was quite warm and sunny at the end. I'm looking forward to the next marathon in Lincoln.

The Lincoln Marathon is wonderful. The course is two fun loops that run through residential areas. It only has about two slight hills. The organization is incredible. The police were helpful and the fans were great.

One of the things I appreciated the most was that every aid station had a sports drink and many of the aid stations had ice, which I used to cool myself off with.

Great First Marathon! (about: 2002)

A Runner from Maryland (5/9/02)

I thought this was a great marathon! The first half of the course is through residential areas, with a lot of people out. The last half of the course is an out and back which was cool, because other runners (coming back towards me, I was a little slow) were giving encouragement. The whole group of runners had such a nice feeling-a good midwestern crowd! The course was largely flat, and the aid stations were awesome. I was, again, really slow and was worried they were going to close out on me, but they were there as long as I was. The Penguin even announced my name when I crossed the finish line. A great event!

Excellent organization and behind the scenes work! (about: 2002)

A Runner from Kansas City (5/8/02)

As a first time marathon runner, I was pretty impressed with how well the organization was and how well the event was pulled off. The only thing I didn't like was the course. The first 13, is a loop through a residential area and was great...lots of support and variety. The last half was an out-and-back course, and it got pretty boring running the same place twice; plus, it was in the wide open and got pretty hot. The police did a great job with traffic, and everything else was great!

Wonderful (about: 2002)

A Runner from Midwest (5/7/02)

This is a wonderful event that is enjoyable for the whole family. The weekend starts off with a kids' race the day before the marathon, followed by a free pasta dinner. Everyone is welcome and the support and friendly atmosphere are truly one of a kind. My ONLY problem was that towards the end as the runners started to thin out, the support seemed to thin out as well. The finish line banner was taken down well before the last runner came in, and the group of people standing at the finish line helping struggling runners to water or medical personnel also left. It kind of gave the impression that if you couldn't run the marathon in under 5 hours, you weren't important enough to finish under a banner or with the help of the support people. Other than that, it was a wonderful race. Hopefully the RD's will take notice and have people at the finish line until the LAST runner finishes!!

The Lincoln Marathon is a well-run event. (General Comments)

I have run the Lincoln Marathon three times now, and each time becomes more enjoyable. The event kicks off with a nice pastathon the day before the run that is free of charge for the runners and their families. Race day is well organized as police officers keep the streets clear and the route is well marked. Volunteers line the route with water, sports drink, and oranges and are always making kind remarks to the runners, especially to the ones who are struggling. Fans line the streets for most of the race and are quite encouraging. The fans are not 5 deep along the route, but they make a nice turnout every year and every runner knows this helps. The weather is usually in the lower 60's and the humidity is not a real issue as the race is always held in early May. The course is mostly flat with a nice hill around the 19-20 mile mark that makes you think you have hit the dreaded wall. This marathon is well worth the $45 entry fee.

fantastic spring marathon (about: 2000)

A Runner from St. Joseph, MO. (4/27/02)

I have ran Lincoln 8 times and I really am depressed missing 2002, due to an achilles injury. Great pre-race pasta dinner [free] with a party-like atmosphere and a great post-race dinner [free also] with excellent guest speakers,Rogers,Shorter etc,. Course is fast, slight hills, but mostly flat. Great aid stations with lids on cups. Easy to get around start and finish- nice sized marathon for anybody. Plan on running this one as long as I can run.

Awesome marathon-- organization, course, value!!! (General Comments)

A Runner from Midwest (3/29/02)

I have run this marathon twice and P.R.'d once here. The couse is mostly flat and slightly rolling at places which actually helps me by allowing me to use different part of leg muscles. The volunteers and spectators are helpful and enthusiastic. The water cups they handed out at the aid stations even have straws and lids on them. This is the only marathon I know that provides free pre-race pasta dinners for everyone -- runners, friends and families. Good course, great organization and a super value. A less discovered gem in marathon races.
