I ran the Blue Ridge Mountain 1/2 Marathon this past weekend and was blown away at how smoothly the whole event was organized. Water stops were well equipped with essentials like orange slices, pretzels and bananas and of course water and aid to drink. Volunteers and spectators by the dozen were there to cheer all runners on with lots of enthusiasm. Can't wait to sign up for this event again next year! If you like hills well BRM has hills on steriods to run!!!

I have run this race every year, including the last two years as a double marathon. This is, by far, my favorite race that I've ever run and it's been added to my annual calendar with a permanent marker. The course is beautiful and challenging, the people of Roanoke are super friendly and accommodating, and the race organizers are cruel and evil (in a good way). I'm already recruiting other runners from Michigan to join me in 2013!

Amazing First Half Marathon Experience (about: 2012)

This was my first race I've ever entered and it was truly a great experience. My husband and I originally signed up for it because we wanted to run a half marathon and it was a half way point for another couple that did it with us.. boy, we did not know what we were getting into with that elevation! But we all finished proud of our first time! We had an amazing time and I must say the volunteers & police officers were so supportive and motivating along the route. The spectators were also incredible! The course was gorgeous, we always knew where we going, and plenty of water stations! We enjoyed every bit of it.. even though we are all so sore today!!

Best race in the country! (about: 2012)

Wow. This is a very special race. I'm still a novice runner, but I've run races all along the east coast. This was the best of all of them all by a mile (well, by 13!). From the enthusiastic encouragement of many fans along the course, the knowledgeable volunteers, the ridiculously beautiful and scenic course and wonderful race festivities...everything was top notch. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and despite the 6 hour drive this is my 'can't miss' race. I will be there next year and hopefully for many years to come.

Incredibly beautiful course. Hilly, yes, but worth it.

The spectators were incredibly enthusiastic.

Race day packet pickup is a big plus.

Plenty of portopotties at the start and along the course. Aid stations were comprehensive, almost ultra style.

At the price paid, wish there was a technical t-shirt. (I am fine with no t-shirt even, if you don't pay the same as for a high quality shirt!) Even that wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't been out of the small shirt I had ordered.

Like the bumper sticker- would have paid for a magnet upgrade for such a great course.

Would run again.

I love this course. It highlights the best that Roanoke City has to offer the running community.

Beautiful course, amazing views, challenging every step of the way! Incredible organization and volunteer support - never felt more helped along the way - and the spectators, for a small town, were amazing. Probably had fruit from someone's garage four different times, and many people out enjoying the weather and encouraging every runner that went by. This is my 7th marathon and I actually PR'd, which I credit the support with. Amazing experience all around.

First Marathon

One word...AMAZING!! Amazing course, Amazing Organizers, Amazing Volunteers...all made for an Amazing Experience for me as I finished my First Half Marathon. Yes, I chose quite a tough one to tackle, but if it hadn't been for all the hard work the organizers and volunteers put in - it would have been much tougher. Everyone should run this course & there is no shame in walking - it really was the best strategy! Thanks again for an amazing day!!

This is truly a fabulous race. For being in such a small place, you really feel like the whole town comes out to cheer you on (I think they do, actually). It is very well organized and is better resourced (water, gels, snacks) than some of the very large races I've done. The mountains are brutal, but the scenery can't be beat. Definitely do this one.
