This was a great race for an inaugural event. The RD was quick to respond to emails and the volunteers were great. It got a bit hot, as there are parts not shaded, but I still enjoyed myself.

This is simply an average marathon, on a pure, flat trail. The gravel and flatness make is more difficult than you'd imagine. For beginners, don't assume the flatness makes this one easy. The gravel is not efficient to run on... you should be familiar with running on gravel before setting out to do 26.2 miles on it. Organization was average at best compared to the bigger marathons out there. The scenery is average, with few spectators. I won't do this one again.

Excellent effort for a first-year event! (about: 2009)

For a first-time event, the organization was outstanding. It's limited to 500 runners, so there's a nice, intimate feel, like you were running with friends. A very well run race, with an excellent course - the "rails to trails" is almost flat, with a gravel surface that is fun to run on. Good support throughout the race. The only negative was the sports drink served on the course and the lack of variety in drinks at the end. But the food was great and the organizers have said that they will address the drink situation next year. If you like a smaller race with good amenities, this is one you don't want to pass up. I plan to be back next year.

First Marathon

This was my first marathon. I didn't know what to expect, but from moment I registered, I felt at ease because of emails from the organizer regarding updated info. I was an out-of-state runner, and enjoyed the people, course, volunteers, tech t-shirt, and medal. Everything about this marathon was first-class.

I loved this race. From start to finish, this event was planned, communicated and executed with great care. Sean provided regular informational emails in the weeks and months prior to the race providing registration numbers, video training tips and encouragement. I can't thank him enough.

The course was beautiful, filled with lovely farms, creeks and even a rooster on the trail at the start of the second mile, making sure we were all awake!

The water station volunteers and spectators were unbelievable! The encouragement they offered was genuine... I know it made the difference for so many of us. To the little boys with the squirt guns: many thanks!! Just the right thing at just the right time!

Sean, I know your dad is proud of the wonderful tribute you have created in his honor. Looking forward to many more!

What a magnificent race! Easy to get to, plenty of parking, wonderful volunteers, miles of trees and fields, inviting streams and even object d'arts along the way. Best of all: a small field of extremely friendly runners. We'll be back next year!

Great organization for the first-ever Bob Potts Marathon. The packet pickup was easy, the directions to the start were easy, my family had no trouble parking and finding me at the finish, and the course was relaxing with no runner congestion and no car traffic to speak of. If you are looking for a stress-free marathon, this one is for you. I'll go back and do this one again someday.

Kudos to Sean and team for a terrific first-time event. Great volunteers; great course. No complaints. York is an ideal central point from which to visit Gettysburg, Lancaster and Hershey Park, so if you go, you should think about staying around for a couple of days. And The Yorktowne is a great host hotel.

What a fantastic day! This race was managed beautifully from start to finish. They sent out lots of emails, including video training tips, registration numbers, and race day info in the months leading up to the event. It was as if you knew Sean Potts personally by race day.

Official results were posted the same day, and photographs were also available the same day! Sean sent links to articles recapping the event and a lovely "final look" video showing the runners at the start of the race. The pre-race gift bag was great fun, and the shirts and medals are beautiful.

The course was postcard perfect, and filled with the beauty of our country and with the sounds of nature. (We encountered a rooster in the second mile who made sure we were all awake!) I can't imagine anyone wishing the scenery would have changed; it was a feast for the eyes.

The course volunteers were without peer, providing water and genuine encouragement the entire way. I know that at many points in the race they were the difference for many of us.

The fellow runners were just a terrific group of people. I was struck by the words of encouragement, smiles, and thumbs-up from my fellow runners along the way. It was impossible not to feel as if you were among friends.

Sean Potts, you made your dad proud on Sunday. I'll look forward to next year!

This was an outstanding run. The course was pretty and mostly well shaded, which was handy once the sun came out. In one part, it ran by the loudest roosters I've ever heard, including one who came out on the course to lend his vocal support to the runners. The packed dirt/crushed stone surface on the Heritage Trail after about mile 1.5 was good on the feet and not uneven enough to require a great deal of attention. Aid stations were well spaced, and enthusiastic volunteers provided sports drink and water at each. Road crossings were effectively protected by police and volunteers. The start/finish was well organized and well staffed. The 6:30 a.m. start is an excellent idea, given the potential for heat in late May. Finishing on the track at York College was a nice touch. There was chip timing but no start mat, so only a gun time was given. This is something I would change.

The most impressive aspect of this run was the excellent organization from the start (registration) to the end (awards). In my experience, everything was handled efficiently and with a smile when there was face-to-face contact. I felt a strong sense of community engagement in this marathon, and for me that added to its appeal. This run is in the name of Bob Potts, a local endurance athlete who passed prematurely. His son, Sean, and the rest of the organizing group delivered a well run and memorable marathon that is a great honor to the event's namesake.
