Great and fast course; good organization! Just the right size.

Great marathon for the money (about: 2011)

This was my third year running this race, and I fully intend to run it every year...as long as the race and I are both still around. Sean Potts and crew do a first-rate job. I'm sure his father is proud to have his name associated with this race.

The course is very flat and rustic. For some, the out-and back nature of the course may be undesirable, but I personally like it that I get to pass every single other runner at some point during the race...and it's always exciting (and humbling) to see the leaders heading back to the finish line.

Also, nice medal and good food. There's a real hometown feel to this race. The only thing that's possibly lacking might be chip timing, but I don't think it's really necessary. Besides it would only drive up the price and would add very little. Final note, the crowds are small but wonderfully enthusiastic and friendly.

Superb Small Marathon (about: 2011)

I would definitely recommend this marathon. Had a great time. Packet pick-up was easy. Not too many runners. Flat, shaded (for the most part), trail course. The only thing missing is lots of spectators. The ones there were great (and very loud and supportive). Since it's an out-and-back course, there was lots of support from the runners going in the opposite direction. The last .3 of a mile is up a driveway to the stadium at York College, but finishing on the cushioned track was nice.

My wife and I just finished Boston and we were looking for something a little different. The Bob Potts Marathon fit the bill to a "T." What a world of difference. There is so much local "heart" in this marathon. The course was soft on our feet and the weather mild. This one's a keeper!

Great, small marathon (about: 2011)

This is a small marathon that is on a flat rail trail. The path is flat, of crushed stone, and very easy on the legs. Very well organized. Not a lot of spectators, but the volunteers who helped at water stops made up for the lack of spectators with their spirt. The only negative: the cups needed to be bigger. Fast course: I improved my best time by 10 minutes.

A Race to Remeber (about: 2010)

Great weather mixed with great competitors; I couldn't ask for anything more. It was my 19th marathon in 13 states, living on my 3rd pacemaker, making the race one that I will always cherish. But to have my friends, Mark and Brian, to push me at the end of the race and to qualify for Boston for the 6th time in a row makes me feel truly blessed. Thank you to Bob and all of the volunteers; this race was well worth the run.

Fun and organized small-town marathon (about: 2010)

This race is directed by Sean Potts to honor his father who passed away. This is an excellent small-town marathon. The gravel course is easier on the body than the road. The elevation change is not too noticeable. There were plenty of fluids and porta-johns. The post-race food and bands were excellent and the start/finish at York College were great. Plenty of parking and a great way for families to see their loved one finish 26.2 on the college track. Sean did an excellent job. I will run it again!

If you are looking for a small (really small) marathon, this one is perfect. I loved the 6:30 a.m. start, the ease of parking near the start/finish, the enthusiastic volunteers, the plentiful food at the end, and the beautiful scenery. I entered this marathon at the last minute after suffering through the New Jersey Marathon 2 weeks before (90 degrees at the end) and, aside from not having a lot in the tank for the last 2 miles, I had a great time.

Elegiac (about: 2010)

The 2010 Bob Potts Marathon hosts a small field (333 finishers in 2010). The first mile along the York College campus runs along some small hills; the other 25 miles run on a scenic, rural and flat gravel path along a train rail, as well as occasionally going across an intersection, or past a farm animal, a spirited band, a supportive and enthusiastic crowd, or one very dark and scary tunnel. I loved this race and recommend it to any runner who loves the marathon. It is an elegy to a man who had a life in running, the late Bob Potts.

Beautiful course run on a very forgiving surface (about: 2010)

I've run both Bob Potts Marathons and thoroughly enjoyed both races. This year's race seemed to be a bit less impressive in terms of organization - no national anthem prior to the race due to technical difficulties, cold pizza at the finish, the exact same medal as last year (except for the date changed, of course, and a different-colored ribbon), and a lower-quality race shirt (standard Brooks tech shirt as compared to last year's Under Armour) with a less impressive design and logo.

Even considering those minor issues, this race still is one to run as a result of the scenic, flat course. The surface is very gentle and forgiving on the legs. At the end you will still know that you have run 26.2 miles, but I don't notice quite the leg fatigue and soreness as normal. The surface is primarily a soft cinder/crushed stone surface with a few sections of road and concrete, but not very much at all to speak of. I have run my two fastest marathon times ever (3:37) on this course, if that tells you anything - and I am hardly what one would call a prolific marathoner (and both times I was dealing with some minor injury issues). Spectators are boisterous at a few of the railroad crossings, but be prepared to run long sections without much vocal support if you are the sort that needs that kind of encouragement. The finish is on the cushioned track of York College of Pennsylvania in front of a loud, enthusiastic, cheering crowd.
