Hello,

Loved the race, the graciousness of everyone, and the professionalism involved. Only one comment to make the race better: Either have small food items every few miles during the race for the marathoners or inform the runners there will be 'no food' provided during the race. I myself and several others ran out of energy and thought there would be food on the route. There were only 2 spots for gels. I don't mind providing my own...but I would like to know if it is going to be available or not. Again, thank you very much for a wonderful weekend. I will promote this marathon to my friends. I especially want to thank the sincere kindness and generosity of the people of Tulsa and Oklahoma...and this is coming from a Jayhawker!

Thank you,

Bart

The organization was excellent. It was great to get both a sweatshirt and a finisher's t-shirt, and they were both top notch. Both the start and finish of the race were smooth as glass. It was a nice touch to get a free beer at the finish, as well as Spenco slippers. The bag-drop and pick-up was well done, and I also liked the men's trough for convenience. The support from the Tulsa Police department along the route was very impressive. The entry fee was reasonable and good hotel rooms for cheap prices are plentiful in Tulsa, as are great places to eat. The route itself was good until the end, when you had a loop on Peoria and then a climb up hill at the very end. The hill cannot be avoided, but lets hope they figure out how to get rid of the south loop on Peoria. The other downside was the very minimal crowd support. With the exception of the start, finish, and turn around near Jenks, the course was almost void of spectators. All in all I was glad I decided to do this race.

Very professionally organized and managed. (about: 2006)

The course needs a little smoothing out. Consolidate some of the long stretches with the abrupt u-turns in some way?? Loved the staff and volunteers. The event was perfectly executed!

Friendly, high-energy volunteers (about: 2006)

Great race! However, according to my GPS watch, the half-marathon was 13.25 miles rather than 13.1.

Great race, but hard finish (about: 2006)

The Route 66 was very quality race. I commend the race director and the volunteers for such a nice course. The course went gradually down until the turnaround. Therefore, it was gradually uphill on the way back. The last three miles were even hillier. Lots of extra goodies: sweatshirt, finisher's long-sleeve shirt, sandals, and a finisher's food tent. The bands alond the course and at the end all added to the experience.

I was extremely impressed with the course and the organization of this race - especially considering it was the first one!!!! Would highly recommend this to everyone! I will be there next year!

This was an excellent first time marathon...the entire group, race director all the way down to the volunteers did an excellent job. Great course, relatively flat running from downtown Tulsa to one of the nice suburban areas along the river, nice and scenic then back through a couple of nice areas of town, the last two miles finish with a couple of short challenging hills as you reach the finish line where the volunteers did a great job of taking care of the finishers after your name was announced. First time marathoners were recognized with a special bib color, nice little touch. Nice Brooks long sleeve finishers shirt as well. Great event that should grow as the word gets out. Tulsa has a strong running community, this November marathon is a reflection of the many great folks who make Tulsa a great running town.

Great Inaugeral Run (about: 2006)

I am VERY impressed that this was Tulsa's first big marathon. The race was well organized and very well done. I would definitely recommend it. It was a beautiful day as well! My race experience was a bit tainted by a nagging hip problem.

I ran this race pretty injured from about 13 miles or so on. The people at the medical stations were great and so helpful but completely underequipped. They could stretch my bad hip for me but that was about it. No icy-hot patches, no vaseline, no band-aids, nothing but them personally and a folding table.

You REALLY need to make sure that next year you equip those stations a bit better. Also please train your volunteers to yell out what they are serving (powerade vs. water). Most of them did an okay job but there were two stops where they switched the order of the beverages and then the people weren't announcing what they had (confusing!).

These are all things that you can plan a bit better next year and certainly do not take away from a well mapped course with clear mile markers and a fun event. VERY WELL DONE!!!

Outstanding inaugural marathon (about: 2006)

There are a few absolutes for anyone seriously running a marathon--website with accurate course map, description and elevations, an on-time start without problems, chips and timing system that work, accurate mile markers, acceptable traffic control, and well stocked water stations. The organizers did not disappoint in any of these critical issues. The course is flat until the last 7k so a BQ is possible. The crowd was the size you would expect but supportive, especially the female police officer at mile 24! About the only suggestions I would make would be to redesign the food area to avoid the long lines and have some PTs for post-race massages. Overall, an outstanding job and I would run it again. Thanks!

One time only - too much concrete (about: 2006)

I liked the marathon but there was too much concrete and not enough asphalt. It really beat up my legs. Big complaint on your host motel: They were telling everyone no late checkout. I was told they would charge me half a day's rate if I was not out by noon. They ended up not charging after much arguing, but this isn't something you want to worry about while you're trying to run a marathon. I would never go back there and I'm not the only one.
