I have been to Twin Cities, Des Moines, Dallas, San Antonio, and Quad Cities. Route 66 is as good as any one of these and better than most! Ample water and PowerAde stations. R. 66 is perfect for first-timers or many-timers!

Beautiful weather and a nice course. (about: 2006)

I think it would be a little better if the course looped through Tulsa (i.e. 15th Street), as the riverside portion was a little boring. Also, it would've been good if the volunteers could have handed out water on both sides, as the water stops were a little crazy, especially in the first half. More music would have helped - not just bands, but have someone playing music on a p.a. would have helped. Overall, I think it was a great race - very well organized - and I hope they do it again next year!

Not bad for a first time (about: 2006)

The course along the river was nice but the slanted cement surface made it tough.

The people along the route were very nice and encouraging.

The water/Powerade stations were sufficient and spaced nicely but there was absolutely nothing to eat along the way. We finally got some Gu late in the race but it was too late to help.

I was in dire need of Vasoline and Tylenol, asked at the Aid Station but they had neither.

With at little more attention to runners' needs, this will be a major premier race next year.

Great race! Well-organized! (about: 2006)

This was my first full marathon and I am so glad I did this one for my first one. The route was great - relatively flat with a few hills in the last few miles to make it challenging. I thought it was well-organized, with plenty of water stations, great traffic control, and wonderful volunteers. I also loved the sweatshirt, sandals, finisher shirt and medals.

Super job and thank you so much!!

Route 66 Marathon, the start of something good (about: 2006)

Being so close to my hometown, I decided to run the inagural Route 66 marathon. Overall, I think the event went pretty well. Expo was about the size you would expect for an inagural event with the number of entrants that this one had. Race packet pick up was easy and went very smoothly. I stayed at what I assume was the host hotel (Crowne Plaza). I know it is out of the control of the race directors, but if the host hotel isn't going to be accomodating to the marathoners by offering a late check out, then I would like to see the business taken elsewhere. After finishing the marathon I had to drive 2 1/2 hours home before getting a shower. The course itself is very flat. If you're looking for a fast marathon, this could be your ticket. However, be prepared to run the majority of it on concrete. If you're not used to this, it will beat you up after several miles. I noticed several runners jumping onto the grass or on the asphalt paths to run in order to get some relief. I'd like to see water stops every mile in the future. This might help to cut down on the congestion at the ones early in the race. Also, please spread the water station tables out so all the runners aren't piled up trying to get water and sports drink. I found them to be very hectic. It would also be nice to always have volunteers handing the runners water. More than once I had to help myself to a cup of water. The medals were nice. After returning home though, I noticed that I was given a medal that said 'My first marathon' on it. This wasn't. There seemed to be a lot of confusion amongst the volunteers on things like this. I think this is an area that could be improved. The little details are very important to runners. We received a nice finisher's shirt and there seemed to be plenty of food at the end. From reading the website regarding this marathon, I expected there to be a lot more music along the course than there was. I was a little disappointed that this wasn't the case. There is defintely room for improvement and I expect that if the race directors take the runners comments to heart, the Tulsa Route 66 marathon will become a popular event.

This was my first marathon and what an experience. The course was great. I really felt appreciated when I came into the finish line, a credit to the organizers. You will be my measuring rod for further races. Great job!!

You'd never know this was an inaugural event. The organizers did a fanastic job - from the expo, to the start, to the aid stations, to the finish, to the racers' premiums. And the weather cooperated beautifully. I live in Virginia now, but am totally proud of the job my hometown did on this marathon - I plan to be back!

Congratulations to Chris Lieberman and his team for putting on a great marathon! Everything seemed to go smooth for this fisrt time event. From parking to packet pickup we had no problems. The flyover at the start was cool, traffic control was excellent, water stops were plentiful, and the volunteers and host hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The finishers technical shirts and sandals were awesome and the sweatshirt is great! Crowd support was limited but that was ok, the friendliness and encouragement of the other runners made up for that!Only drawback...finishers food seemed to be running out early. But you can be sure I'll be back!

Thanks, Bobby, for helping me reach my goal (about: 2006)

Had a great time. Without the 3:30 pacer, Bobby, I would have never made my goal. Don't know if I want to run that fast again though. Spectators were great; volunteers were very cheerful. Was my first marathon, but definitely not my last.

This was my 34th marathon and I can't believe how well it was organized and run. From the pasta dinner, to the on-time start, to the aid stations, to the fans, food after the race, (free beer also) it was nearly perfect. Kudos to the organizers-you did a great job. Good luck living up to it next year because you set the bar unbelievably high. At the 5 1/2 hour mark we went back down to the finish line and the announcer was still calling every runners name, and for the first time finishers, telling them, 'you ARE a marathon runner.' At 6 hours the food tent was still dishing out pizza, cookies, rice and beans, etc. Usually in my evaluations I try to suggest improvements, and it's hard to do for this race. I've already recommended this race to others When I get all 50 states done, this is one I'll come back to for sure. Also, it's about 9pm on race nite, and the results are posted online already.......
