This was a unique trail marathon in that it was flat and easy on the legs and feet. The course circles a wetlands area with loads of wildlife including ducks, alligators and a snake or two, but none I ever saw on the trail - except for a couple vultures and several more in the trees. (Waiting for a meal?)
Although the course circles the wetlands five times, it never becomes boring. Something new to see each time around. Very beautiful.
My only negative complaints are the race was to have started at 7:30, but did not start until just before 8:00, and as soon as the sun came up it was hot and humid. Maybe the race could be started earlier. Also, the time clock was not working. On the plus side, there were plenty of aid stations with fruit, water and Gatorade. Volunteers were very encouraging and did a good job. A good race for non-running friends and family to attend if they like to go bird-watching or nature-walking while you run.
