This is a small but well organized run... even with the half marathoners and 5K races it wasn't too congested. A nice downhill start over the first 1200 meters gave way to a flat course along the scenic White River. Packet pick-up and the homemade soups at the post race meal were definite pluses. The only downside was the course was open and sharing the road with local traffic was a bit annoying. Otherwise, it was a very good event.

I have ran 5 half marathons and I chose this one as my first full marathon. I thought it was the perfect race. It was super flat, the volunteers were great, I loved how every mile was marked and there were plenty of water stops along the way. I was able to achieve my goal too! I will definitely run in this race again, and I have already talked my friends into it too.

Great experience in friendly small-town atmosphere (about: 2011)

Great experience with very helpful race officials, staff & volunteers who went out of their way to make this a truly enjoyable event for all. Home-cooked soups & chili really hit the spot afterwards. Course well-marked and well-manned by aid stations.

Great Little Marathon (about: 2011)

Easy parking
Easy registration
Plenty of aid stations
Good food and drinks
Good support on the road by the local police
Excellent PR course. First mile was downhill and the rest was flat and scenic
Temperature was perfect with some wind blocked by trees and hills

It would have been a little more scenic with the fall foilage a few weeks earlier, but the chance of warm weather would have been greater.

Great Course if you want to Qualify for Boston (about: 2011)

This was my first of a back to back marathons week end and it was perfect. I landed in town late the night before and they had a morning pick up of your number and goody bag. The people were friendly and helpful and the course is flat and beautiful. For a small Marathon they were very well organized and really made it a fun race. If you are first timer i would do this marathon.

I chose this event as my first race at this distance. The downhill start required a lot of focus and control, due to nagging knee pain the week before, but after you get down the hill to start, it is definitely flat. The wind off the river was cool and the weather perfect. After this experience, I'm sure I will continue running this distance and may even work up to the full marathon for next year! One thing that I think would be nice is to move the race up a month or so to take advantage of the beautiful fall foliage in the Natural State.

I've run both large city and small town marathons and I'd rate this marathon as being reflective of the true spirit of distance running and marathoning. The course is run along a roadway bordering the White River. The size of the field allows you to truly relax, enjoy the scenery of the valley and to participate in an event where a bunch of geniunely nice people gather for a brisk fall run.
Great overall organization and great support throughout the race. I look forward to returning in the future. Thank you to all of those that supported this event and its' runners.

I can't help but say good things about the race, director, help, etc. This was just an amaznig race. If you need to know how flat the course is just ask the numerous people who set PR's. There are plenty of aid stations along the way filled with Gatorade, Water, Gels, even some with fruit. The race directors are some of the nicest and easiest people to work with. Then there is the great food after the race that is just amazing. Some of it home cooked and some not. Enough tought tokeep you filled up for the route back home.

First Marathon

What a great little race! Very well organized, lots of bathrooms, water, Gatorade along the way, snacks at the end. Shuttle bus back and forth from finish line to parking. Very low key, relaxed atmosphere. Good for beginners and veteran runners alike.
