Great small-town marathon. Beautiful run. (about: 2008)

The race was well organized and the trail course through the woods was beautiful. Volunteers were excellent and the aid stations were well manned and stocked. While this was my first marathon, the small trails made for some cramped running, and the four loops made it mentally tough. However, I enjoyed my race very much. The free massage was perfect and there was minimal waiting. Really no crowd to speak of but runners were very friendly and the small trails made for easy conversation.

While this race has a great, home-towney atmosphere, great goody bag, and wonderful post-race food... the narrow, winding trail, coupled with two-way traffic on most of it, definitely limit your pace. I loved the run through the woods, and was fine with the slower pace, but sure could've done without the FOUR loop course. Going past the finish line 3 times before you finally cross it made the fourth time was mentally difficult. Weather was hot, and the wind was strong, but not a real factor due to being in the woods most of the time. Volunteers were awesome, though crowds were non-existent (but being so close to other runners, both coming and going, made you not focus on lack of crowds). All in all, a nice run but course is more suited to a half marathon rather than a full one.

Fun Marathon (about: 2008)

This is a comfortable trail. The crushed gravel was easy on the joints. It made for a bit slower time. Weather was perfect. Food, goody bag, and free massages were the best.

This was my very first race and I actually completed the half. (Yeah!) It is a very beautiful course. The organization of the race seemed on target. The water/aid stations were great. The people were very friendly and I truly enjoyed it. The food was great. The medal, shirt and cap were also wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone. There is also so much to do with family before and after racing. The police and EMT support was in place. Plenty of port-o-potties. Other runners were tolerant of a "newbie." Truly enjoyable race for me to start with. I hope to be back!

This was an awesome run. I've run 4 marathons this year so far and one half, and this is certainly at the top of the list. I ran the challenge of the half on Saturday and full on Sunday. And this was also my final marathon to complete the Texas Triple. I didn't expect this one to be great, to be honest, but I was really thrilled to see how fun it was. The course was great - lots of scenery, shaded, gravel (easy on the joints) - and the volunteers were AMAZING! With the volunteers at this marathon, you didn't even need spectators, because they did it all: helped, cheered, and even remembered me from the half run on Saturday! I really loved this run. The medals will also keep me coming back for more next year!!! They were just HUGE! And that was a big bonus considering I ran 39.3 miles during the two-day event. Who wants a little medal for that, right?! Well the medals were great, volunteers were amazing, and there was a beautiful course, great food and fun! I will definitely be back next year for this one. The course was so nice that it wasn't even a mental block to make 4 loops! It was so pretty. You got to run on a boardwalk, next to the bay, under the trees in the woods.... There was just so much to see. I was overall very pleased with this run and will recommend it to all of my fellow runners who missed out on this great event!!!

And to the volunteers and coordinators, thanks so much for your help and support!

This was an easy, flat, trail run. Water stops were always well stocked and even the Girl Scout cookies were plentiful. By Sunday's 4th loop, I was bored; though I did the half on Saturday, and I guess that's why. Chip pick up was different in that they didn't give them out at packet pick-up. Instead, you get them race morning. Special treats in the goody bag were nice. Post-race food and party were top notch, typical of most good small marathons. Early start for the marathon on Sunday was appreciated.

This is simply a GREAT small marathon. Being a trail run in a warmer weather ( 73°F) you probably won't be running a PR. But the settings are BEAUTIFUL, the course is easy on the body and the aid stations are well stocked.

Lots of nice goodies and a HUGE finisher's medal.

I will definitely be coming back!

I had just run my first Austin Half Marathon a month ago and I decided I was going to run the Seabrook Half Marathon. Seabrook trails was the place I usually train anyways and therefore, I thought I know the course, so I could definitely do it here. After all, I knew the course really, really well. The Bay Area Running Club members and On The Run store did a fabulous job. The race has such a personal touch that you are bound to leave impressed. The food at the end of the race was great.

There are some things you will see on this race you might not see anything else, signs on the trail like "Snake and Alligator Habitat" and also "Unstable Sand." The technical shirt, cap and socks are definitely a seller for this race that almost gives your money back. The free massages before and after the race were fantastic.

I would highly recommend this race.

SLOW RUNNER/WALKER-FRIENDLY MARATHON (about: 2007)

I really enjoyed this marathon, after running Honolulu and San Antonio. Slow runners/walkers were allowed to start two hours early with a trail guide. We were also provided with a clip-on light so you could see where you were going. The four-lap loop trail was something new. With a 6- to 7-hour marathon time, I'm used to only seeing the back of other runners as they pass me. The loop trail allows you to see the other runners coming and going along some areas. Lots of water and Gatorade. The grilled chicken sandwich at the finish line sure hit the spot. I'll be back next year.

Great weekend! Well organized small-scale race. (about: 2007)

I loved this! After doing a few huge races, I wanted something on a smaller scale so as not to fight through a crowded field of runners. This race is small but extremely well organized. I received several emails updating me with race information, all personable and friendly; this helped me to stay motivated and excited about my training. Having done marathons and half marathons, the back-to-back Sat./Sun. half marathon was a great new challenge. I hadn't done a trail run before and this was a good one to start with. Trails were wide enough to pass on, flat, smooth, and well marked with signs and live bodies (no way to miss a turn); the goodies were terrific (dry-weave shirt, dry-weave hat, technical socks); tons of water/Gatorade stops; post-race food was terrific - loved the hot grilled food. I'll be doing this one again.
