My brother and I came over to do this marathon and we had a really super time in Edinburgh. It's a lovely city on race day; the weather at the start was awful, but once we got going, it was grand. The support on the route was very good, with plenty of water stations as well. The route is very flat and it's designed for a personal best. Some nice landmarks passed on the way and a nice 4- or 5-mile run up the coast, which was nice. They gave out a very nice old-style medal at the end. I would recommend this marathon to anyone brilliant. Also, visit the city for a few pints after; that's probably the best part. There's a great buzz around the town in the evening. DO THIS MARATHON!

This was my 4th Edinburgh Marathon. Delighted to see a new course, as the old course was very tough the last 4 miles and hard to get a fast time out of. This new course was okay - very flat. I do not like out-and-back courses, but found this not too bad. Maybe all the wind and and rain we got during the race took my mind off it. The one thing I did not like about it was the pair of times you came back on your self: first at the the turnaround where they brought you to run around a house and back on to the course, and shortly after that take a left turn run approx. 500 meters up a road around a cone and back down again the other side of the road. It would be better just to stretch out the turnaround on the main road. Plenty of water stops and isotonic drinks; support was poor along course mostly because of the weather. Expo was poor, t-shirt was poor, and picking up of bus ticket at the expo was very poor, so they should look at this, as there must be a quicker way of picking up pre-booked tickets. Will run again next year.

After running this marathon in 2006, the only reason I ran again was due to the change in course. It was flatter and that meant I was hopeful of achieving a PB. The organization for 2006 was very poor; thankfully things have improved greatly this year with significantly more marshals and helpers at drinks points. The crowd support was very poor, compared to other marathons, although the poor weather would not have helped. If you're looking for a PB, this would be a good marathon to run; if you want crowd support to help you along, Dublin would be a better option.

This was my first marathon and it was fantastic all the way through. The crowd helped us along at regular intervals, and the lady with the pot lid was brilliant!! I thought this might be my one and only, but now I hope it's the beginning of a future of long runs. The wall never appeared for me this time - not that I was looking for it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. Only stopped at the porta-potties at mile 7, and took a quick stretch at 22 miles. Other than that, I was fine. Great experience - it made all those a.m. runs in the dark and in the rain so worth it. Thank you to all the helpers and runners who jollied each other along. Weather was windy but suited most of us fine. Thanks again - till next year!!!!

My first full marathon so not much to compare it to. But for what it is worth I found the whole Edinburgh experience very enjoyable. I enjoyed the course. The last 3 miles were particularly tough with the hills (more of shuffle home than a run for me). The start was great in Edinburgh's main street, as was the subsequent journey through the city. My biggest problem with the course was the mile markers. A few seemed to be way off - and I mean like two-to-three-minute differences between some splits (a 4-minute miler I am not). Seems like something organizers should be able to get right. If I lived in the UK I would do it again. They should have a half marathon as well though.

This was my 4th marathon and I was surprised that I made a personal best, considering the hills and the heat. After the hills in the beginning I welcomed the flat sections out toward Leith only to find a couple of long hills towards the end. All in all, it was a great marathon (could've used a few more toilets at the beginning) and a great vacation. Scotland is beautiful and the people are very accommodating and nice. If you are considering running this marathon, you should definitely give it a go.

Only my second marathon and with an injury-blighted training program, I struggled with the heat and the hills. The last 3 miles were killers. Appeared well organized and the distribution of medals was seamless. Will be back next year having trained properly to do it justice. Nice scenic route.

This was my 2nd marathon (I did the London Marathon last year). Although I know that London is much bigger, the organization there was a lot better. The start was very poor - it was confusing were to start from. Princess Street was very quiet. Even the expo was very disappointing - not many stalls at all. Could have had more signs within the center; more people had to ask people such as myself who had already been, because there was no sign posted. Edinburgh is a lovely place and I am sure with time they will get it right.

Bit too hot this year so no PB ran. Normally its cooler - last year we had rain. Organisation gets better every year and, because of the sunshine, the crowds were bigger than usual this year. Not sure if I would travel from outside the UK to do this one but if you are going to be in the UK at the time its a very worthwhile run and you will get to see a lot of Edinburgh
