It Was Torture (about: 2001)

A Runner from South Florida (3/2/02)

The weather was just too hot for running. There were few spectators along the course. At the finish line we were treated to mushy bananas. The race did not start on time because a bus transporting runners was late. The air was full of exhaust fumes. The T-shirts were dull and the medals were a little bigger than the size of a half-dollar. The expo was a rip-off. A $4 bottle of mosquito repellant cost $8.

You'll love this race! I had a great time there! I was one of the fortunate ones who PR'd.
I ended up meeting a bunch of GREAT people before the race which we continued to hang out with for the duration of our stay. I was very impressed with the organization of this race, since it was their inaugural race! The course was nothing spectacular, but it was relatively flat. Beware, there was a good stretch of road that subjected you to the elements of the sun. They did have plenty of water/Gatorade stops, one every mile and served in plastic bags--which was convenient. The only thing that the race really lacked was spectators...but that could change in time, for this is something new to them. All in all, I enjoyed myself immensely in Jamaica and have plenty of wonderful memories.

I must admit for the first time running a marathon a month - I am happy to be alive. This was the hottest - most humid marathon of all. Most people met their SPR's on this course (worst time ever). I do know of one who actually PR'd. There is much I would like to say but since it is mostly negative I will let you find out for yourself or you may email me.
