Beautiful course, but not easy (about: 2004)

Beautiful course, but it was not clearly marked. Ended up off of the course for about 10 minutes before I found somone to direct me in the wrong direction. Very little Gatorade along the way. I have run the half here many times and I have been very happy, but not this time. Hard way to run your first full when you have to add on a few miles. Course is very nice to look at but rolling with a big hill area that you have to run twice.

Beautiful course... mediocre support (about: 2004)

k. S. from Athens Ga (2/2/04)

Pros: Great course, beautiful, almost like a trail run, friendly Hughston staff, intimate.

Cons: Gatorade, once on entire course at the last stop, confusing directions (or none at all) at some intersections.

I like small crowds so this was ideal.

Rolling hills are challenging the second time around.

Challenging & beautiful course (about: 2003)

The course is 2 loops which has rolling hills that take their toll during the 2cd half. Although the gardens are not in bloom yet, they still are very beautfuil and serene.
If your looking for big crowds this is not the race for you. Saw the same dozen or so volunteers throughout the course. Medals are cheap, however has nice long sleeve shirts. Great resort w/ good rooms rates.

outstanding race. gorgeous course! (about: 2002)

The course is the most scenic I've ever run (30 marathons). Prety easy, well supported. Great accommodations.

Excellent marathon for first timers! (about: 2002)

Since this was my first marathon, I wanted something small. The organization was beyond belief. Everything was taken care of for the runners. A few more fans would have been nice, but it was February.
Would definitly run this one again.

some moderate hills, but a very scenic route (about: 2002)

Some moderate hills. Water about every three miles w/gatorade every other water stop. A lot of half marathoners.

PEACEFUL WOODED ROLLING HILLS (about: 2002)

A Runner from Florida (2/6/02)

Beautiful, peaceful rolling hill course through callaway gardens. Friendly, helpful race staff. Course runs mostly on bike paths through landscaped pine forest. Good marathon for runners wanting a small intimate event. Nice shirts, but medals were mediocre. Expo small, but any last minute needs were available. Plenty of fluids on course. Post race stretch by Hughston clinic staff was great. Results posted online quickly.

Pretty, rolling course w/clear routes & good volu. (about: 2002)

A Runner from Atlanta, GA (2/4/02)

Did the 1/2 - Well organized and sponsored. Easy check in. Nice setup for parking, bathrooms, and post race activities. Very supportive and vocal volunteers at stations. Rolling hills with second half harder than first ... would do it again !

A new and scenic marathon (about: 2001)
Course: 4 Organization: 5 Fans: 3
A Runner from Dahlonega, GA (8/18/01)

The Callaway Gardens Marathon is a new marathon that is part of a fitness series put on by Huston Sports Medecine Clinic. It was my first marathon and I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of running their first marathon. It is a two lap course though but you don't notice. There were few spectators but they were really supportive. This year will be the fourth annual marathon and I intend on running it again.
