A GREAT low volume marathon (only 500-600 runners) (about: 2004)

2004 was my fourth time to run this marathon. I really liked the early Dec. run over the early Nov., date as it was much cooler than previous years. Also previously I complained about cheesy medals. In 2004 they came up with great looking medals (well done!). This is a nice flat course. If you are looking for a Saturday race this one is a must. Nice extras, two shirts, socks and gloves worth more than the money spent. The money was spread extremely well and hats off to a job well done. It is a double-loop course, and the support is weak on the second loop, but other than that, P-E-R-F-E-C-T.

Baton Rouge is Fast, Flat, and has Good Support! (about: 2004)

Good marathon for first-timer or old-timer. Flat, flat race based on a double-loop. First loop is running with 1/2 marathoners which shrinks to a much narrower field at the 13.1 mile mark.

While the course on paper looks like a nightmare, it was well marked and major intersections were well directed by police. Support was good, but restrooms were scarce - could use 2 more locations.

'Gator' gumbo at the end along with massage tent provided camaraderie and recovery. Thanks Baton Rouge, a run you should be proud of!

Beautiful, flat course. (about: 2004)

I appreciated the volunteers... they were very encouraging. Some constructive feedback for those attending to the water stations is that they could be more prepared. A runner doesn't have time to stop while they open a package of cups and then pour the water. It's helpful if they are ready as the runners run by. In most cases, they were prepared.

Great race. Organizers are awesome (about: 2004)

The race is relatively flat and fast. It is two loops. Very nice people. Highly recommended. I have run over 25 marathons -- and this is a great one.

Good Run, Great Food (about: 2004)

Organizers of this race are extremely friendly and try to please. The course is flat with a fair number of curves but the scenery with the race around the lake and the surrounding homes make for a pleasant distraction.

The pre-race dinner the night before the marathon is the best I have ever had; a little spicy, but hey, this is cajun country.

The medals this year were awesome. The only drawback I found was one water station was unmanned on the second loop of the course.

Overall I would give the organizers of the race an 'A' for effort and for providing a great course.

A 'B-' marathon, nice flat course (about: 2003)

Nice flat course, good organization, perks are free marathon socks and shirt. I've run it 3 years and the medals are cheesy. This could use great improvement. Put the money you pay for socks into the medal! Little support from crowds even on the first loop. Watch out for the humidity if you are not used to it.

A fun marathon from start to finish (about: 2003)

I ran this marathon twice and the folks that put this together did a great job. From the pre-race party the night before through the race and at the post-party, everyone and everything went perfect. Lots and lots of fun.

A great first time marathon (about: 2003)

This was my first. It is a small run so you are more than likely going to be running alone. The course is flat and scenic; the LSU campus is nice. The spectators that were there after the first loop were supportive. Some even had water and sprayed water as you passed. Nicely organized. Baton Rouge is a great place to explore. Will and am running again - if not '04 then '05.

Great low key marathon. (about: 2002)

I set the course record in 2002 and think that this marathon is an excellent one. There weren't too many spectators, but the ones who were out there were great. Though I ran alone the entire race, it was fun cheering on the other runners on the second lap. If I still lived in the area I would do this marathon again.

Wonderful place to finish your 50 States Marathons (about: 2003)

The red carpet was out for me when I finished a marathon in all 50 states at the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon. They made a plaque and a banner to help me celebrate. What a wonderful down-home feeling for the race. Great way to experience Louisiana!
