I have run marathons and trained all over the USA Latin America and Europe: for me, this was easily one of the most scenic races I have ever done.
Organization was fine for a smaller quality race.
Crowd support was fun; maybe I was hallucinating but the same crew of 3-6 folks hop-scotched us the whole race, stopping every 3-5 miles to cheer us on... unbelievable....
A runner's race, folks. There are very few awards, and they went to the truly fast guys.
Juneau was a wonderful vacation spot. We spent a week hiking, running, and generally exploring the region by foot, boat, and public transportation.
We will be back from sunny San Diego for sure. Thank you, Juneau; your hospitality won't be forgotten.

I ran the 1/2. The organizers and volunteers were great. It was nice to run a small race like this. The weather this year was great (just hope for the same because there are so few days that this is the case).
I would recommend it.

What's not to like about this race? The weather was perfect, the organization was better than most of the biggest races I have been to and the course was great.
I think Mr. Maier would be proud.
To all who helped organize the race, thank you. The mile markers were very visible, the aid stations were plentiful and stocked, and the post-race was perfect.
To all who ran that morning, maybe I'll see you again in Juneau.

My wife and I have run about 35 marathons, and we rank this one among the very best. Nearly everything about this race is top-shelf, from the flawless and professional organization, to the exceptionally fast, gently rolling course with no turns other than the turnaround, to the 26 miles of oceanfront running with mountains and glaciers and bald eagles and spruce-moose-goose forest, to a fresh salmon bake at the finish line. What an outstanding experience! I feel so very lucky to have been able to experience this hidden gem of a marathon.

The best part of this marathon was the weather. Perfect. I ran the 1/2 marathon and the course was unbelievably boring. You run out and back on a 2-lane road that is not closed to traffic. I stopped counting dumptrucks when I got to 20. There wasn't one single porta-potty or place to go to the bathroom for the entire half marathon. I'm sorry to say (because AK is my home state) that this is not the way to see Alaska.

The Juneau Marathon was my smallest yet, with about 42 runners. It was also my most beautiful run ever. Besides eagles, I saw salmon working their way upstream, very green mountains with cascading water falls, a hoary marmot and a GLACIER! It was the culmination of my 50-state marathon quest and it seemed a shame to hurry. If you decide to do this one, book your air, hotel, and rental car ASAP, as there are no great deals and the airport runs short of cars in the summer. A big thank you to the volunteers - who also outnumbered the runners - for a job well done!!!

The organizers and spectators were amazing, especially for such a tiny race. The course contained no monstrous hills, but it is hillier than it looks. The scenery is spectacular given that it is Alaska. My only caution is that there are no porta-potties on the course and I would be scared about wandering into the woods. the race director slipped in a bear warning when telling me about the race. All in all, this was definitely worth the trip.

Great little race! Nice view of the glacier! Excellent food!
A fun group of people that made the entire experience wonderful. I only wish that I remembered the names of the volunteers and their dogs that I met along the way!
The course is a rolling out and back, and the half doesn?t get far enough down the island to see the glacier. What a shame. Maybe the half runners can avoid carpooling and leave a car at the end of the course and run an unofficial half and drive back to the finish. Running by the glacier was one of the highlights of the course. I did love the fence made out of skis as well....
Juneau was a good location.... I found a great restaurant in Juneau, the Twisted Fish by the tramway (I think that it was in the blue Taku building?). I also found a great coffee shop, the Station Coffee House that had wonderful food, to die for desserts and great coffee. I took a bus to the glacier where there are lots of trails, etc. Being a port for the cruise ships, there are enough excursions to choke a horse and a ton of tourist gift shops to get those wonderful souvenirs (what is it with a 100 jewelry stores at each cruise ship port???).
What a great way to work on your 50 states or even better, 50 state capitals! It was a small race with enough views of eagles and glaciers to be worth the money, but the feast afterwards was not to be missed. Fresh salmon, burgers (veggie or beef) for the more traditional, and friendly people.
I would have liked to have a sticker on the back of the medal to tell you which year, but that is about all that I missed!

This event will be a memorable experience for the novice or seasoned runner. I have done 60+ and find this quaint little get-together to be one of the best. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The camaraderie is endearing. The scenery is superb. I enjoyed the race the people who made it happen and the city and surroundings that make this experience unique. The course was fast course with moderate rolling hills. A PR possibility is distinct.

This was by far the most scenic of my numerous marathons. The race director (a runner himself) did a superb job in putting on a topnotch race. He was so thoughtful that he went out of his way to pick me up from my hotel and gave me a ride to the start. From the ludicrously inexpensive entry fee, to well-stocked aid stations with enthusiastic volunteers, a picture perfect day, beautiful medal and the most scrumptious post-race feast.
The magnificent views and the tour to the glaciers, in conjunction with this well organized marathon, made the trip worth while.
Two thumbs up for this hidden gem!!!!!!
