A Well Organized Event!! (General Comments)
Course: 5 Organization: 5 Fans: 5
A Runner from Western Wisconsin (4/7/02)

I have run both GB Marathons and enjoyed both! (I prefer this event to Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN.) Green Bay was very supportive! Running through Lambeau was exhilerating the first year, hopefully once construction is complete, it will once again be added as part of the course. I must agree though, that it would be nice if it was on the last half of the course instead of the first half. The post race food was fabulous (who am I trying to kid, the food During the race was great too) especially the popsicles!!! I plan to run this once again this summer! The heat? Ahh...it was nice not to have to wear extra cloths or gloves to the start!

MUCH better than last year, GREAT course! (about: 2001)

A Runner from Minnesota (8/24/01)

Last year there was a killer hill right around mile 20. This year the course was VERY flat. I didn't have any problems with the heat, the breeze was perfect for me. I couldn't find any SoBe drink to train on so I brought Gatorade in a water bottle, and a bag of raisins. Worked great.

I LOVED this one. If all things remained constant (and my knees weren't shot), I would not hesitate to run it again.

2nd GB Mara... Sobe drink + heat = Ouch! (about: 2001)

A Runner from Chicago (8/16/01)

This was a nice smaller marathon, with good organization and a new course layout. There were only two problems with the race, as I saw it. One was the heat, which was significant along with the humidity. The breeze helped a lot, but there wasn't any advertised shade on the final eight miles of river path.

The other problem was the Sobe sport drink served on the course. Perhaps because I wasn't used to it, I got stomach cramps and diarrhea from it. When I hit a porta-john, it appeared I wasn't alone in that problem. As a result I became dehydrated because water alone wasn't absorbing fast enough into my system. As I said, it was a hot, sunny day.

Nice marathon, but _please_ replace the Sobe with good old race-standard Gatorade!

No Shade as Promised (about: 2001)
Course: 4 Organization: 4 Fans: 5
A Runner from Kansas City (7/24/01)

The web site stated 'Totally shaded the last 6 miles'. There was no shade to be found and it was a very hot day. We kept waiting for the promised shade for some relief. The organization and spectators were great. The course was very flat and running along the river was great. The pasta dinner needed a better speaker, better organization and better food. I hope this improves next year.

Green Bay was Great!! (about: 2001)

This was a very organized race--the jacuzzi at the finish line was a nice touch, along with all the food and refreshments--if you don't want to run in a large marathon--I highly recommend this one!! The folks in Green Bay were really supportive of the runners.

Great Time in Green Bay (about: 2001)

A Runner from Tampa, FL (6/27/01)

I ran the 2001 Green Bay Marathon. They have a new and different course from the inaugural event. The new course is very flat and nice. Most of the last 8 miles were along the Fox River Trail which was scenic and nice. The spectators in Green Bay were very supportive the whole way providing extra water stops, hoses to cool down, and lots of cheering. This was my first marathon and I really enjoyed the whole event. Thanks Green Bay!

2001 Race Had It Together (General Comments)
Course: 4 Organization: 5 Fans: 4
Scott Y. from Virginia Beach, VA (6/27/01)

The organizers seem to have fixed the bugs noted in last year's comments. Only negative: weather. Hot, hot, not a cloud in the sky.

Positives: Many. Expo and pasta dinner very nicely done though I noticed the line was pretty long for the dinner. Marathon jackets were $15 and were nice!! Port-o-johns more than adequate, which is rare. Sponsors set up many if not most of the 28 water stops with goodies such as ice chips, wet towels, sprinklers, etc. 11 medical stations. Excellent traffic control and course marking. Very very well organized in my view. Disappointing not to get to cross Lambeau Field due to renovations but that wasn't the organizers' fault. The Fox River trail which makes up most of the last 8 mi. is a wonderful community asset which flows along by the river. The breeze helped a lot though the heat was brutal by 10 a.m. Post-race food/bev's were great even after 4.5 hrs. Even had shuttle buses to the outlying hotels.

All in all this was a very enjoyable experience and I think the organizers deserve a lot of credit. I came up from Va. Beach for this race and would consider it again, despite the distance.

A good race with a little room for improvement (about: 2001)
Course: 4 Organization: 3 Fans: 4
A Runner from Grand Rapids, Michigan (6/25/01)

This was the second year for the Green Bay Marathon and they are doing a good job at establishing a good race. The course was very flat with plenty of water stations. The race did not go through Lambeau field this year due to construction but it would be a nice addition to the race. The fan support was sparce but consistent throughout the race. On the down side: Mile markers were missing most of the way during the first ten miles and there were not split times for most of the course. There was also some confusion at the start with all of the 4 mile runners being mixed in with the full and half marathoners. Overall, a good race!

For a first time event, it was great (about: 2000)

If you've never been to Green Bay, put it on your list of places to visit...especially around June 24, 2001,
this year's marathon. Home town fans are great & welcoming. Watching the race was loads of fun... second only to being at Lambeau Field watching the Packers!!! I plan on volunteering for the race this year! Considering last year was the first time GB held a marathon, it was great!!!

Lambeau Field was the reason I entered. (about: 2000)

I think the course needs lots of improvement. Lambeau Field saved the day though - it was awesome! Just too bad it had to be at four miles. Would have been nice to have a little more buildup to that.
