Unbelievable weather! (about: 2004)

We had a huge downpour throughout the race, yet that only seemed to make it more memorable for us middle-of-the-pack runners. I loved it, especially running around Lambeau Field. It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who can make it. The weather has to be better next year!

Outstanding Organization (about: 2004)

On a day which could not have been worse to run an event or run a marathon for that matter, the organization was outstanding from top to bottom. Everyone from the race director, the volunteers out in the rain, and the police holding traffic was just outstanding.

The course is a pretty flat course and on a nice day I think a person could get a PR but when you add a torrential downpour and wind into the equation it actually proved to be quite a challenge. Running through Lambeau Field at the end was great!

I really can't comment too much on the spectators because other than those loved ones supporting their runners onward, I can't imagine anyone braving the elements to watch for the fun of it.

Although the elements were bad it was a great race and I am glad I did it. I hope more and more people put it in their schedules to run next year.

Again, kudos to the event staff. You truly made this marathon a great event despite Mother Nature's interference.

My first 1/2 & can't wait till next year! (about: 2004)

First Marathon

This was my first half marathon and despite the bad weather, it was a great experience! If you are a Packer fan there is nothing like running through the players tunnel and onto Lambeau Field. I can't wait till next year!

During the Great Monsoon Marathon, I counted 34 water stops (many informal) filled with enthusiastic, wet spectators. The course is flat (except for the bridges) and scenic, but the key are the spectators on the porches, in the cars, at the water stops, everywhere.

Although I grew up in Dallas, Green Bay is truly Titletown when it comes to marathons.

Great course, even when wet! (about: 2004)

Probably the best crowd to run in that I have seen! Green Bay is a great little town with a big heart! Much more fun than Grandma's, and easier on the wallet!

I Really Love This COURSE! (about: 2004)

I really love this course when we all run and when we finish in the Lambeau Field where we all finish. It is the best 26.2-mile run that I ever ran in my life. It is a really best running sport to get in shape or just to have FUN. A while back ago, my cousin said that he really loved it when he ran the course and he said that I should try it. So, I told him that I ran there before and I told him that I am going to try it again and have more FUN. Hope to see you on May 23, 2004!

Thanks,

Michael Brown

A Great Smaller Marathon (General Comments)

I've run each of the Green Bay Marathons. I have to say this is one of the best organized marathons I've done! From start to finish I don't feel we lacked for anything! The food at the end was awesome... May is the perfect time of year, in my opinion, to run a marathon--I wouldn't change that date. The support along the way was great! It would seem the fans of Green Bay are always up for supporting any sporting event!

There is no shade on the course (about: 2003)

The marathon should be run even earlier. It was very warm and the marathon advertises that much of the marathon is run in the shade, and that is not the case, especially the last six miles. Furthermore, include Lambeau Field in the marathon - the race should finish there, like Crazylegs finishes on the field at Camp Randall in Madison each spring.

This was my 141st marathon.
The good: Well organized, great course, good expo, plenty of aid stations, enthusiastic volunteers, plenty of GU/PowerGel, no significant hills, last 6 miles are closed ashphalt trail, plenty of port-a-potties at start and along course, fun finish, plenty of food and beer, and meeting Helen Klein.
The bad: There was nothing significantly bad about this race. Hard to find the start, though.

Great May marathon! (about: 2003)

Local Runner from Appleton, WI (6/1/03)

This was my third marathon, and my first time running Green Bay. I am a 'local' from the area. The course is really pretty nice, however there is alot of concrete, so beware. The race is advertised as flat, but there are definitely a few hills. Volunteers and local people were out on the course cheering and offering snacks. Outstanding. We even ran by a nun out on the course, saying 'bless you!' as we ran by! If we could've finish in Lambeau Field, that would have made it truly sensational. Perfect weather, if a little warm at the end. However, based on the awful, cold spring we had in the upper Midwest this year for training, I'll take a warm day ANY day. I don't really find brats and pickles and beer to be particularly appetizing after running 26.2 miles, but hey, we do live in Wisconsin, and other food was available! All in all, I did enjoy this race and would definitely recommend it to runners considering a May marathon. Great job, Green Bay!
