The Texas Marathon debuts March 28, 2004 in the shadows
of the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas
The first marathon in the world to offer prize money for
the marathon spectators and water stations
The Big D Texas Marathon scheduled for March 28, 2004 will start and finish
in the Texas State Fair grounds in the shadow of the historic Cotton Bowl.
The Event will also feature two and four person relay teams and a 5k.
The Big D Texas Marathon and Relays will be offering over $5,000 in prize
money to the water aid stations and spectators. The first prize for
spectators will be $1,000.00. Event Director, Lewis George, states, "After
running a dozen marathons, my biggest gripe was I could never get enough
distractions to help me run 26.2 miles and forget how tough it was. I am
hoping that The Texas Marathon will be the wildest and most entertaining
marathons ever.
The Big D Texas Marathon is also pleased to announce that all runners
running the full marathon will have their full names boldly printed on
their bib number. Marathoners must be registered by March 15, 2004 to
receive the bibs. " We feel that this is great new way to make the marathon
more interesting for the runners. The personalized bib number is a memento
worth keeping and it allows spectators on the course to encourage people
personally."
