Marine Corps Marathon Lottery Drawings Begin

15 March 2002

The Marine Corps Marathon's Lottery Drawings began on 15 March 2002 with
the first 4,500 runners being selected. The first runner selected was
Keegan Yager from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Race Director, Rick Nealis, was pleased with how smoothly the first
selection process went. "I feel this process is a much more efficient
registration structure than in the past and that it will continue to move
ahead successfully."

A new feature of registration for the Marine Corps Marathon is the group
feature. Runners who wish to run with family members or friends can select
to be a part of a group. The group feature ensures that, if selected, all
members of the group will be registered. This feature has been very well
received by the runners where over 21% have registered.

The next drawing will be held on Friday, March 22, 2002. The selection
process will continue on-line at www.marinemarathon.com every Friday until
May 3, 2002. Each week, the Marathon staff will randomly select a certain
number of entrants until the field reaches 16,000 runners. Runners need
only apply once since the applications will roll over to the next drawing.
