FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A New Marathon Race is Coming to Mississippi --
the 2013 Mississippi River Marathon in Greenville.
This February 9th 2013 the Mississippi River Marathon will open its course
to a full and half marathon event. This will be the first full marathon in
the Delta.
Race Directors, Christopher Marsh and Bretton Wall, were Teach For America
corps members teaching at Lakeside High School in Lake Village, AR when
they came up with the idea of starting a marathon. The Mississippi River
Marathon's purpose is to motivate community members to take control of
their health through proper exercise and diet. It's no secret that many
within the South struggle with heart disease, high blood pressure,
diabetes, and other diseases caused by obesity.
Race Director, Christopher Marsh, said: "Were hoping to motivate community
members to take control of their life by setting a goal that is just within
their reach, while at the same time provide funding to a social movement we
are passionate about."
That is why the Mississippi River Marathon has committed all excess
proceeds from the event to be donated to the public charity Teach For
America in furthering its cause of providing all children in the
Mississippi Delta with an excellent education.
Runners will experience circling North America's largest ox-bow lake (Lake
Chicot), passing the location of the first recorded night flight by Charles
Lindbergh, proceeding through historic downtown Greenville Mississippi, and
crossing the famous Mississippi River. This will give runners the unique
opportunity of completing a marathon by running through two different
states.
Race Director, Bretton Wall, said "This will be an unforgettable race day
experience that we're sure you'll want to come back to year after year. Not
only will beginning runners get the chance to run for a great cause, but
experienced runners can qualify for the Boston Marathon because our course
will be USATF (United States of America Track and Field) certified."
The Mississippi River Marathon is looking for runners, volunteers, and
sponsors to participate in it's events. If you or anyone you know are
interested in participating you can register by visiting the marathon's
website at www.mississippirivermarathon.racesonline.com and or follow its
facebook page at www.facebook.com/mississippirivermarathon.
