FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
You Can Still Get Into the 37th Marine Corps Marathon
Runners Can Capture MCM Bib through Transfer Program & Charity Partners
QUANTICO, VA (June 4, 2012) - Although the 2 hour, 41 minute sellout of the
37th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) was surprising to many who were not able
to register before the record closeout, the MCM still offers two ways into
this year's event either through the MCM Transfer Program or a MCM Charity
Partner.
On Wednesday, June 20 the MCM Transfer Program will open to runners who are
registered to participate in the 37th MCM, but are not able to do so.
Through the MCM Transfer Program, registered runners can shift their MCM
entry to a nonregistered runner, who will have the opportunity to
participate in "The People's Marathon." Only registered runners can
transfer their spots in the 2012 MCM to another individual.
Many of the 101 MCM Charity Partners also have marathon entries available
for those wanting to run 26.2 miles while supporting a worthy cause.
Details about each MCM Charity Partner and their MCM programs are available
on the charity page of the MCM website at www.marinemarathon.com.
All registered MCM participants transferring their entry to another runner
have until Aug. 31 to complete the transfer form that will be available
starting June 20. Completion of this form initiates the transfer process in
which the registered runner is emailed a unique code, link and password to
send to a runner of their choice, who will gain access to the 37th MCM.
Runners who are newly registered through the MCM Transfer Program are
required to pay a $30 transfer fee before Sept. 7 to complete the
registration process. Once registered, these participants will enjoy all of
the benefits of MCM participants. All transfers between runners must be
completed through the MCM Transfer Program to be included in official
results.
Registered runners can locate fellow marathoners seeking their coveted spot
on the MCM Facebook page or MCM Message Board, which are both located on
the MCM website.
MCM registered runners can also choose to transfer from the full marathon
to the 6.2 mile MCM10K at no cost. Transfer from the MCM to the MCM10K is
open now but must be completed by Sept. 7. The MCM to MCM10K transfer form
is available on the registration page of the MCM website.
The Marine Corps Marathon honors the dedication, sportsmanship and
patriotism of its participants. Runners from all walks of life participate
in the largest marathon not to offer prize money, earning the name "The
People's Marathon."
The 37th MCM will be held on October 28, 2012 in Arlington, VA. No federal
or Marine Corps endorsement is implied.
