FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Marine Corps Marathon Offers Deferment Option
Runners Have Through September 30 to Defer to 2011 Marathon
QUANTICO, VA (May 5, 2010) - Runners who have already registered for the
35th Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) on Sunday, October 31 but will not able to
participate in the 2010 marathon can defer their entry to 2011.
Because the MCM maintains a no refund policy, runners will pay $30 to defer
their 2010 registration to the following year's event. Runners who have
officially registered must go to the registration page on the MCM website
at www.marinemarathon.com to access the required form.
Runners will not be able to extend deferment requests past 2011. All
deferment requests for the 2010 race will be accepted through September 30.
Beginning in January 2011, those runners who have deferred will receive
email reminders with a one-time password in which they must re-register to
run the MCM in 2011. Once a deferment is made, no additional fees will be
required to re-register for the 2011 MCM.
For more information about the 35th Marine Corps Marathon or deferments,
link to the website at www.marinemarathon.com or call 1-800-RUN-USMC.
Voted the best marathon for families, the Marine Corps Marathon honors
the dedication, sportsmanship and patriotism of its participants. Runners
from all walks of life participate in the largest marathon not to offer
prize money, earning the nickname as "The People's Marathon." The MCM is
the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the eighth largest in
the world. The 35th anniversary Marine Corps Marathon will be held on
October 31, in Arlington, VA. No federal or Marine Corps endorsement is
implied.
