Glass City Marathon Announces Partnership with Honor Flights
of NW Ohio and Opening of 2009 Registration
TOLEDO, OH (November 14, 2008) - In preparation of its 33rd running, the
Glass City Marathon in Toledo, Ohio has announced its plans for the 2009
race to be held April 26th. New to the Glass City Marathon is its
partnership with Honor Flight of NW Ohio. A portion of the proceeds from
the race will go to honor our local veterans through Honor Flights of NW
Honor Flight is a non-profit organization which pays tribute to our World
War II veterans by flying them to Washington D.C. where they visit the WWII
Memorial. Top priority is given to WWII veterans and those veterans who
are terminally ill. Honor Flight began in 2005 when they flew 12 WWII
veterans in 6 small planes from Springfield, Ohio to Washington D.C. The
Glass City Marathon is proud to be partnered with Honor Flights of NW Ohio
to recognize our local hero's for their many sacrifices.
The Glass City Marathon weekend is structured to be an event the whole
family can participate in. In addition to the marathon there is a
traditional 5-person relay, a 5K, as well as a ½ mile and a 1 mile kids
runs. New to the marathon weekend for 2009 is the half-marathon. This
marathon weekend will be promoting health and wellness for the entire
family. In conjunction with the marathon, Get Fit Toledo will present the
Wellness and Fitness Expo at the Seagate Convention Center on Saturday
April 25, 2009, from noon-7pm. Packet pick up for the Glass City Marathon
will be available at the Expo where you can also browse through the many
wellness and fitness exhibitors, receive a free pre-race massage, and pick
up last minute running supplies.
Registration for the 2009 Glass City Marathon is now open to the first
4,000 entrants. The first 1,000 entrants, prior to 12/31/08 will receive
