World-class women's field and other tops at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

- World-class female runners at the start

SCC EVENTS, organiser of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, recently announced the
start of double Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) and the winner of the
BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2021 Guye Adola (ETH) in the German capital. The field
of top female runners is just as strong, promising an exciting race, as do
the line-ups of wheelchair athletes, hand cyclists and skaters.

World-class female runners at the start

When more than 45,000 runners from about 150 nations compete in the BMW
BERLIN-MARATHON on September 25, 2022, several big names will be lined up
at the front of the starting line in the women's category. With the
American Keira d'Amato (2:19:12 hours, Houston Marathon 2022, US record)
and Nancy Jelagat Meto (KEN), two athletes are on the list with 2:19 times.
Nancy Jelagat Meto seems to like the streets of Berlin, which she proved
with her second-place finish at last year's GENERALI BERLIN HALF MARATHON.
This was followed by a first-place finish at the Valencia Marathon in
December in 2:19:31 hours. Nancy Jelagat Meto will have to keep an eye on
her competitors Gutemi Shone Imana (ETH), Maurine Chepkemoi (KEN) and
Workenesh Edesa (ETH), who are all capable of breaking the 2:20 barrier.
Furthermore Sara Hall (USA, 2:20:32 hours) will be at the start. Rosemary
Wanjiru (KEN) and Nigsti Haftu (ETH) will make their debuts.

Inline skaters field top line-up

In the men's inline skating competition, all eyes will be on Belgian Bart
Swings of the Powerslide World Team. The seven-time winner of the BMW
BERLIN-MARATHON returns to Berlin as Olympic champion in speed skating. He
will start next to Felix Rijhnen, who won in 2019. They will face two
dedicated skaters from Rollerblade World Team: 21-year-old Italian Matteo
Barison, young, strong in sprinting and with a preference for flat, fast
course profiles, and Frenchman Doucelin Pédicone, who has achieved several
marathon victories (Paris, Madrid). Josie Hofmann, a German skater, has a
good chance to finish at the front of the women's race. The Powerslide
athlete will receive experienced support from her French team-mate Marie
Dupuy. Team Rollerblade World will also provide strong competition with
Veronica Luciani (ITA) and Alicia Delhommais (FRA). Also of interest:
Berlin speed skater Michelle Uhrig. By the way, it is still possible to
register for the inline skating race until August 31.

Hand cyclists and wheelchair athletes

The good surface and the flat course make the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON an
attractive event for wheelchair athletes and hand cyclists. Last year's
Swiss winner Manuela Schär will be hoping to repeat her victory in a racing
wheelchair. Also at the start: her compatriot Marcel Hug (Schär and Hug are
both multiple Abbott World Marathon Majors Series Champions). Exceptional
athlete and series winner Heinz Frei (CH) will be competing in the hand
cyclists' competition this year, as will Berlin-born Vico Merklein (silver
medallist at the 2021 Paralympics). Yvonne Pijahn of Germany, whose
achievements include winning the European Cup in Prague, will be the one to
watch in the women's competition. "We are really happy to be able to
announce world-class athletes in all events, who will bring exciting
entertainment to the streets of the capital and provide amazing athletic
performances along with fascinating images from Berlin to share with the
world," says Race Director Mark Milde.
