Under Armour Baltimore Marathon Announces Course Changes for 2006
BALTIMORE, MD. – Corrigan Sports Enterprises announced today the official
course for the 2006 Under Armour Baltimore Marathon. The event, which is
now in its sixth year, has had a course change for the sixth straight year.
"Every year we try to make adjustments based on runners' comments, input
from the community and the Baltimore Police Department," stated Lee
Corrigan, president of Corrigan Sports Enterprises. "These two slight
changes will provide the runners with a better course and will be less
intrusive to the community."
The course remains almost identical to last year's with the exception of
two changes. Instead of running up and down Hillen Road, which was an
added elevation of 50 feet, the course will now travel further down 33rd
St. before making a right on to The Alameda for a little more than a half
mile. Runners will then make a u-turn at Crestlyn Rd and head back to 33rd
St. to finish the final five miles of the race.
Another change occurs in the Federal Hill section of the course where
runners will run down and along Key Highway before turning down Lawrence
St. and making a left onto Fort Ave. to begin their journey in and around
Fort McHenry. Last year, participants ran down Hanover St. to get to Fort
Ave.
The Under Armour Baltimore Marathon is one of five races that make up the
Baltimore Running Festival. Other races include: the CareFirst BlueCross
BlueShield Half Marathon, the United Way 5K, Legg Mason Team Relay and the
Kids' Fun Run. All participants receive a free Under Armour performance
apparel shirt as well as a medal.
