           Amica Marathon raises $10,000 for Ronald McDonald House

PROVIDENCE, RI – The 2011 Amica Marathon raised $10,000 for the Ronald 
McDonald House of Providence, according to Eident Sports Marketing.

"We are extremely grateful to receive this generous support from the Amica 
Marathon," said Michael Fantom, CEO, Ronald McDonald House of Providence. 
"Support from the community permits the (Ronald McDonald) House to provide 
programs that allow families to spend additional time with a sick child, 
help ease financial burdens, provide a sense of normalcy and keep families 
together during times of medical crisis."

The nonprofit Ronald McDonald House of Providence provides programs that 
directly improve the health and well-being of hospitalized children and 
their families. Since its doors opened more than 20 years ago, it has 
served as a temporary home for thousands of families whose children 
received medical care for premature birth, serious injury, illness or 
surgery.

Nearly 5,000 runners participated in the 2011 Amica Marathon in Newport. It 
included the Amica Marathon, the UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon and a 5K. 
Runners ranged in age from 14 to 80 and came from as far as Australia to 
compete in the event, which showcased the City by the Sea.

Charles Engle, 40, was the winner at the 2011 Amica Marathon. Engle, of 
Coos Bay, OR, completed the scenic 26.2-mile course in 2:36:51. Rachel 
Sweet, 26, of Rochester, NY, was the top female. She recorded her 
first-ever marathon victory a winning time of 3:05:44. 

The 2012 Amica Marathon is slated for Oct. 13 and 14. The weekend-long 
event will feature the Amica Marathon, UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon and a
