Nearly 4,000 to be Part of Next Wave at Sunday's Amica Marathon
Runners will compete in Amica Marathon, UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon
& Marathon Team Relay, Oct. 18 in Newport
Providence, RI - Close to 4,000 runners will be part of the next wave at
the 2009 Amica Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 18, in Newport, RI. Runners –
ranging in age from 10 to 80 – are coming from as far away as Belgium to
participate in the event, which includes the Amica Marathon,
UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon and a marathon team relay.
Rhode Island's legendary race directors Charlie Breagy, Dan Gough and Bob
Rothenberg have teamed up to lead the 2009 Amica Marathon. Together, the
trio has more than 50 years of experience directing major running events in
the Ocean State.
"With the Amica Marathon, UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon and a team relay,
this event offers something for everyone," said Breagy. "We have a variety
of participants, including experienced runners, first time marathoners and
those who want to run a shorter distance and be part of a team. The course
is beautiful. We can expect a great event on Sunday."
The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Sunday in downtown Newport, with a course
that runs alongside Newport harbor, past picturesque Ocean Drive and
through historic Bellevue Avenue. The second half of the 26.2-mile course
runs along the Sakonnet River and ends at scenic Easton's Beach. Full

The Amica Marathon is a 2010 Boston Marathon qualifier.
Runners can still register at the at the Health and Wellness Expo at the
Hyatt Regency Newport Hotel and Spa on Friday, Oct, 16, 2-7 p.m. and on
Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Race day registration will be held on
Sunday at the Newport Visitor's Center, 6:30-7:45 a.m.
