Nathan Peters ran in memory of his mother who passed away in 2005 from brain cancer. That much motivation seemed to propel him effortlessly to the win with a time of 2 hours 26 minutes and 47 seconds a mere 50 seconds ahead of Jerome Recker.

The Bayshore Marathon was capped at seventeen hundred runners and the half-marathon was capped at fifteen hundred runners. Both races filled within seven weeks. With only two weeks to go until race day the 10K has over twelve hundred runners and still climbing.

   Gun Lake man at eighty sets marathon record (MLive.com)
Back in 2001, Jerry Johncock set a personal goal to run at least one hundred marathons by the age of eighty. Johncock turned eighty earlier this year and posted an age group record time of 4:11:51 at the Traverse City State Bank Bayshore Marathon which was incidentally his 102nd marathon. Johncock plans to run a few more marathons before he retires from the sport.

   Reader sets record in Bayshore (Record Eagle)
Defending Champion Marybeth Reader broke the Traverse City State Bank Bayshore Marathon course record by over two minutes 2:46:23. Surprised with her performance after battling plantar fascitis recently, Reader will use her winnings and time bonus to send her daughter to summer camp. Runner-up Janet Becker finished in a 2:59:17 and Val Thomasman was third in a 3:05:24. In the men's race Nick Allen defended his title to win in 2:21:46, followed by Matt Fecht in 2:23:39 and Kyle Baker in 2:33:02.

Unbeknownst to Bill Strong, his wife Marie had arranged for Nick, a U.S. Army parachute infantry specialist on leave, to fly up and surprise his dad at the finish line of the first marathon the retired Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander had attempted since 1991.

Veteran marathoner Kevin Kaspzyk cruised to an easy finish in Saturday's Bay Shore Marathon in Traverse City, MI. Kaspazy made his move with six miles to go, winning in 2:45:07. Sarah Plaxton took the women's field in 3:03:42.
