The 2008 Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon brought joy to four female runners who qualified for the USA Olympic Team Trials - Women's Marathon. The B-standard for the Trials is 2:47. Maureen Ackerly of Richmond, Virginia clocked 2:44:25 winning her first marathon. Claudia Becque of Chicago was runner-up in 2:44:52 followed by Shaluinn Fullove of Palo Alto, Calif., in a personal best 2:46:04. Mary Coordt of Elk Grove, California was the final qualifier in 2:46:30.

Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson who will be a keynote speaker at the 2008 Napa Valley Marathon has advice for those running the race to get a qualifying time for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Women’s Team Trials. She advises to run within yourself, to pass rather than be passed and to have a strong finish. Benoit Samuelson will run in her seventh consecutive Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials race in Boston. Instead of competing for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, however, Benoit Samuelson will aim for a 2:50 finish.

The Napa Valley Marathon has been selected by the Road Runners Club of America as its National Marathon Championship.
