   Inauspicious beginning for what could be big race, the Tybee Marathon (Savannah Morning News)
This year's running of the Tybee marathon was marred by a fair amount of confusion among out-of-town runners. The race was cancelled last summer, and by the time race directors Robert Espinoza and Dale Critz had resurrected it, rumors of its death had spread across cyberspace. Espinoza already has big plans for next year, however, as he aims to make the race weekend a 2-day event.
 
   Gonzalez ices the competition at Tybee Half Marathon (Savannah Morning News)
Stephen Gonzalez of Statesboro, a former hockey player, came away with a win in his first attempt at the half marathon distance. His time of 1:15:20 put him 36 seconds ahead of 2nd-place Marshall Meyer. and 2:06 ahead of 3rd-place John Critchlow. Megan Feason, of Savannah, won the women's half marathon in 1:30:11.

   Atlanta runner engineers win in women's Tybee marathon (Savannah Morning News)
Kristina Yanosek-Tyler finished her first marathon in eight years and did so with a Boston Qualifying time of three hours and 3 minutes. Tyler was able to run the second loop of the course 3 minutes faster than her first loop and that was the difference in time of second place women's finisher Jennifer Eberman of Toronto, Canada.

From Ironman finishers to record holders people flock to Tybee for a flat fast race. Recently engaged runner Melanie Stuart was running for her fiance' Dan who was slacking. Janet Burgess flew all the way from Renton, Washington to claim another state on her list to claim a marathon in all 50 states.

   Tybee Marathon champion Kosiorek slims down, wins (Savannah Now)
Jeff Kosiorek won the 2008 Tybee Marathon in 2:41:26 taking ten minutes off his personal best which was set at the Rocket City Marathon in December 2008. Kosiorek had shed fifty pounds over the past year. Nicholas Eugster finished in second and Radek Parnica was third. In the women's race Kristina Yanosek-Tyler won in a 3:03:19.

   Michelle LaFleur hopes for repeat at Tybee Marathon. (Savannah Morning News)
So dominant is Michelle LaFleur in races held during the Tybee Marathon that she is almost considered a shoe in for the win. She owns the course record in the marathon and the half marathon. She was won the 5K twice in 2006 and 2007. LaFleur has chosen the half-marathon this year and has won it before along with 5 marathon victories on the double loop flat and fast oceanside course.

The Tybee Marathon will move the awards ceremony indoors for the first time in many years. While conditions last year were near ideal for Mike Aldrink's course record setting debut in Tybee, there are concerns about the conditions this year. Race director Ron Boyette said that the runners will brave whatever elements the coastal marathon throws at them.

Windy conditions Saturday morning during the Memorial Health Tybee Marathon foiled Leah Moore Thomas' attempt to qualify for her second U.S. Olympic trials.

Mike Aldrink of Durham, N. C., won the Memorial Health Tybee Marathon in a course-record 2:29:40.

   Tybee Marathon Draws Hundreds (WTOC 11)
More than three hundred athletes were out bright and early on Tybee Island this morning taking part in the 11th annual Tybee Marathon. The marathon, half-marathon and 5K races are held on the first Satuday in February. The Savannah Striders Track Club started the race in 1994.

   Mississippian Chuck Engle paces record field at Memorial Health Tybee Marathon (Savannah Morning News)
Clinton, Miss., resident Chuck Engle poured on the speed in the final stretch of Saturday's Tybee Marathon to win in 2:36:52, the best time in four years of the race. Heather Smith of Rincon, Ga., was the top female finisher. Engle came to the race with plenty of experience behind, having run two other marathons in the past month.

   Raymond wins Memorial Health Tybee marathon in a breeze (Savannah Morning News)
Michael Raymond won Saturdays Memorial Health Tybee Marathon in Georgia amid stiff winds and a bout with nauseau. He finished in 2:43.59. Stacey Bartos won the women's marathon race. In all, 245 runner competed in the marathon.

Local runner Anson Clapcott, 56, won Sunday's Tybee Marathon in Savannah, Ga.,crossing the tape in 2:47:25, becoming the race's oldest winner ever. Gabby, also of Savannah, took the women's field in 3:05:40. .

The Peachtree City resident swept through the frigid 26.2-mile marathon course to be the first woman and the first female master's runner to cross the finish line in 3:18:55.

   Record numbers limbering up for Saturday's Tybee Marathon (Savannah Morning News )
A record number of competitors is expected for Saturday's 2000 Memorial Health Tybee Marathon/Half Marathon. Better than 900 runners were registered as of Friday, and organizers are hoping for 2,000 runners, an ambitious goal considering a record 1,409 competed last year. Nearly half of those competed in the 13.1-mile half-marathon, and organizers expect an influx of runners in that event as well as the 5K, which covers 3.1 miles.
