At 43 year of age and a 2 hour 46 minute and 26 second winning time he was the oldest victor in the races history. Annie Thiessen, the 37-year-old veterinarian who nearly broke the three-hour barrier in capturing the women's title in 3:00:25.

First time marathoner wins Yakima River Canyon Marathon

Yakima resident Jose Garcia didn't know if he could compete in Saturday's Yakima River Canyon Marathon just four months ago. Suffering from anemia, he found it exhausting just stretching for a workout.
With help from iron pills, however, the cross country coach and first-time marathoner won the race in 2:29:41 after setting a blazing pace.
Marlene Farrell took 13th and the women's field in 3:10:00.
