Nik Karr, 22 of Tigard Oregon, borrowed shoes to run his first marathon attempt and the mishap payed off. Karr sailed to victory over the 26.2 mile course with a time of 2 hours 46 minutes and 21 seconds

Meissner, Shelton take Crater Lake run

The 2008 Crater Lake Rim saw upset in the men's race as leader Chuck Engle missed a turnaround two miles from the finish line and Sean Meissner won in 2:55:47. Todd Ragsdale was runner-up for the second straight year. In the women's race Jenn Shelton who received a late entry at the thirteenth hour won in 3:15.01 setting a new course record. Shelton who was injured and out-of-shape was never challenged in the race. Abigail Stephens was runner-up over twelve minutes behind.

Crater Lake Runs Bring Out Veterans

Martin Balding missed the first three Crater Lake Rim Runs marathons because he didnt know about the race. He won his first appearance in 1979, and he has attended the 28 races since then. In addition to the victory in his debut, Balding won in 1986 and 1994, at age 57.
