Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot will go for his fifth Boston Marathon victory and a record fourth in a row. Several other top men from 2008 have returned to try to disrupt his attempt, and American Ryan Hall will be making his Boston debut after an impressive performance at the 2008 London Marathon. In the women's race, Dire Tune will defend her title against 2007 winner Lidiya Grigoryeva and up-and-coming American Kara Goucher.
