Healthy Kidney 10K - USA Olympians & The World

Bobby Curtis and Abdi Abdirahman reasonably represented the USA on the roads in Central Park at the 8th Annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10K; finishing third (28:37) and fifth (28:56) respectively. Meb Keflezighi, focusing on his marathon training and not this 10K race took seventh in 29:08. The other American Olympian featured in the race, Ryan Hall, had no excuse that we heard for his poor performance, 15th place in 30:15... Daniele Meucci, an Italian training with the Nike group in Oregon was the winner in 28:28. The most interesting story of the day, however, was 25 year-old Leonard Korir of Kenya who was running his debut professional race - in fact, Korir's graduation from Iona would be held crosstown just 3-1/2 hours after the end of the race. Certainly the $12,500 second place prize was a great graduation present for Korir.

Kenya Athletics Announces 2012 London Olympics Team According to multiple sources, Kenya has announced its Olympic Marathon teams:
Men: Wilson Kipsang, Abel Kirui and Moses Mosop
Women: Mary Keitany, Edna Kiplagat and Priscah Jeptoo
Left out are Geoffrey Mutai, the man with the world's fastest marathon (2:03:02), and Patrick Makau, the man with the world record (2:03:38).
The selection for the men's team must have been difficult with two of the world's best left behind, but ultimately performances at Spring 2012 marathons held the most weight:
Wilson Kipsang impressed with his 2:04:44 London Marathon win and his 2:03:42 near world record at the 2011 Frankfurt Marathon. Abel Kirui ran a solid London Marathon 2:07:56, but likely earned his spot by winning the World Champion title in 2009 and 2011. Moses Mosop ran the second fastest marathon of all time at the 2011 Boston Marathon (2:03:06), followed up with a Chicago Marathon win (2:05:37) and followed with a solid 2:05:03 third place finish at the 2012 Rotterdam Marathon. Left out were two men that presumably should have made the team had they not dropped out of their 2012 Spring Marathon - Geoffrey Mutai, the man with the world's fastest marathon time, did not finish the 2012 Boston Marathon. Patrick Makau, the man with the world record, did not finish the 2012 London Marathon.
The women's field came straight out of the results of the 2012 London Marathon, with the top three finishers chosen and all having set personal bests in the same city where the Olympics will be held. Mary Keitany (2:18:37) will lead the team, Edna Kiplagat (2:19:50) and Priscah Jeptoo (2:20:14) will also compete well against the rest of the world.

It's not as simple as this summary makes it sound, and you should read our full writeups...
The London Marathon confirmed Mary Keitany's place as one of the best runners ever as she defended her London Marathon title, won the race for the second year in a row, became the fourth woman ever to break 2:19 and set the Kenyan National record. The men's race was exciting as the runners went out at a pace well ahead of the world record; ultimately slowing, but seeing Wilson Kipsang finish with a strong 2:04:44 win (just 4 seconds off the record); and Martin Lel outkicking Tsegaye Kebede for second place. This was Lel's third runner-up finish which, added to his three wins at London, gives him six top-two finishes at the race that arguably hosts the strongest field in the world each year - a testament to his strength and longevity.
