Fusashige Suzuki of Japan ran an astounding 2:27:49 at Jingu Stadium in Tokyo on March 31, 1935. This record was not to last for long, though, since countryman Yasuo Ikenaka would break it just days later.

In a race absent of the dominating Kitei Son, the short statured Fusashige Suzuki ran to a new world record on an out and back course starting and ending at Jingu Stadium in Tokyo. The course was measured thoroughly before hand to ensure that it would not be short thus negating any official times, a fate suffered by Son in four previous races.

Running on the same course that fellow Japanese Fusashige Suzuki had set a world record on days before, Yasuo Ikenaka bested Suzuki's time by nearly a minute to a set a new world record of 2:26:44.

In perfect weather conditions, Korean Kitei Son raced through the Jingu course in a record-setting time of 2:26:42. Talented runners chased Son, but he beat his closest competition by nearly 5 minutes.
