Favorite Runs - Clyde Fant Parkway Asphalt Trail

Back to List

Location:Shreveport, LA, USA
Description: Clyde Fant Parkway Asphalt Trail (6-miles one way) marked every mile (Y1, Y2, etc), every 400 yards (double white dots), & every 200 yards (single white dots). This is a popular walking and running trail with an occasional biker)

From the downtown YMCA on the corner of Travis & McNeil, run North on McNeil and take a right on Fannin. Run East on Fannin and take a right on Clyde Fant. Run South on Clyde Fant and, after Lake St (Science Spectrum), take a left and join the asphalt trail. This is the 1-mile point from the YMCA -- the trail goes for 6-miles total. Note: the Y6 marker is across the Hamel Park road on the left hand side of the lake (about 20-40 yards from the road).

Parking downtown at the YMCA is by meter. If you wish, you can park at the Y1 point or in any of the parking lots around Science Spectrum or the Barnwell Center or the Casinos (covered). Parking is also available at Veterans Park (Y2.5) or at the Stoner Boat Launch (Y3) or at Hamels Park (Y6).

Note: The Arthur Teague parkway on the Bossier City side of the river has an identical trail that runs from the Isle of Capri Casino just South of I-20 to Centurytel Center on East 70th St. Parking is available at the above mentioned, Shreveport-Barksdale Highway (Bossier-side) boat-launch and at several Gazebo parks. The Texas St Bridge has foot access to a walkway from stairs underneath the bridge at Commerce St. The East 70th st bridge is heavily trafficked and has a minimal shoulder. It should only be attempted to cross it on foot during the early morning hours, if at all. The eastbound Shreveport-Barksdale bridge has a walkway half-way across and a wide shoulder so is fairly safe except during rush hours (Note: stay between the bridges to join back up with the jogging trail because the bridge access is one street beyond the river)

In getting from the Texas Street Bridge to the Teague parkway, leave the bridge walkway and continue going East (straight). Take a right on Traffic Street and go under I-20. Continue straight past Isle of Capri Casino and take a right on Teague Parkway (at the front of the casino. It is approximately 14-1/2 miles point to point if you take the Texas St and 70th St bridges.
