there are many ways to start... you could try Jeff Galloway's run/walk program at injuryfree.com which eases you into running, and if you are a new mom this might be good till your body recovers from pregnancy (when everything is 'loose'). Runners' World has a 'smart coach' that gives you a program after you put in parameters. Cool Running has something called 'Couch to 5K' which has worked well for others. There will be many who tell you that walking or using a treadmill isn't 'real running'... we all start from different places to become runners. When my kids were little I had my treadmill set up right behind the couch in the play room where they watched TV, that way I could keep an eye on them and what they were watching... even the woman who placed third at the last Olympic trials for the marathon used a treadmill as she has a young child... whatever works for you!! good luck with getting back in shape, as your kids grow you'll be a great role model.. -Rita
