It certainly is an interesting way of carb loading. I've had some surprising runs following a night of beer drinking as well.
I would guess the thin blood reduces inflammation, and the additional calories fuels the body.
I wouldn't recommend this as a training technique, and clearly would think twice prior to running in the heat.
I typically get sick to my stomach after marathons...and I've seriously found the only cure to be a cold beer.
