Support me, I'm running the NYC Marathon!!
Hello,
I, Victor Ponce have decided to run the NYC Marathon on November 2nd. This will be my seventh marathon and I am fortunate to be running NYC. It is realistic for me to set a goal of simply finishing the race. But as I have discovered that running marathons are more than just competition within oneself but also an opportunity to raise awareness to a cause.
As part of this year 2008 goal, I have also committed to raise as much dollars as I can for Team Continuum, a charity that cares for the immediate needs of cancer patients. As I have been one also who have a family member that is diagnosed with breast cancer, my wife. I have been very involved in the cancer community since then. I have seen first hand the need for financial assistance, spiritual guidance and just someone to be there. The organization I am supporting through the marathon is very different from any I have been involved with. Team Continuum is not a research based organization. Their focus is about helping people that are living with cancer today. For them, it's about the care and not the cure. Though they fully support research and are grateful for it, they focus on helping today's cancer patients and their families.
In recent months, I befriend many cancer patients at C.T.C.A. Their incredible spirits have touched my life in such a special way. I am running this race for all in need, and asking for your support of an organization that reaches out to aid all cancer patients. Cancer, in any shape or form, is something that every one of us has encountered in our lives, so please sponsor me for as much as you can in support of someone you know who is battling cancer today, or a loved one you have lost.
