I am having the exact same problem except I might notice it just the slightest bit when I run. It hurts almost directly over the bone - the greater trochanter. My feeling from reading a little bit is that this is tendonitis. I've started incorporating some lateral leg lifts to strengthen my abductors. I've found after having tendonitis of nearly every tendon of both legs that strength training is nearly always the solution. I'm also about to start some serious training and want mine to get better in a hurry.
If anyone else has any ideas, please post them.
