I believe it'd be okay to go ahead and run in the event. Treat it as a "warm-up" for the marathon. Racing it all out would be a bit risky. I'd treat the first couple of miles as a warm-up, try to run the next 10 in your planned marathon pace, then use the final mile as your cool down.
This half marathon offers you a great rehearsal for the marathon. You get to try out everything you plan to do for the full marathon in this half: your planned meal the night before, breakfast the morning of, shoes you plan to wear, clothes, vaseline, and drinking during the race! Note what works, what doesn't, and adjust for the real thing. This will help you relax a bit going into your full marathon.
