Here is what happened to me last year when I raced a 1/2 marathon 2 weeks prior to a marathon.
I PR'd at the 1/2 (1:34).
I crashed hard at mile 20 of my marathon; hit 20 miles (32 km) in 2:37; finished in 3:45 by mostly walking the last 2.2 miles (28 minutes!)
So, on one hand, I had a good season as I really value that PR. But, it had an adverse effect on my marathon. So if your heart is set on a marathon PR type performance, I agree with what has already been said.
But, if you treat your racing as a "season" and would feel good about a great performance at the half, even if it detracts from your marathon performance, if you get an ideal racing day for the half, go ahead and race that half hard and lower your marathon expectations.
