Hello all!
I just participated in my first 1/2 marathon a week ago Sunday. I was proud of myself for finishing, considering my training got sidetracked for two weeks due to illness.
My issue: Half way through the race, my right knee started to hurt. I had planned to run the first half of the race and then walk a mile, run a mile for the rest. Unfortunately, my knee hurt enough that I thought it best just to walk.
Now, nine days later, my knee still hurts, though less than it did a few days ago. Going upstairs is okay, but walking downstairs is horrible. Wearing anything but sneakers hurts, and even wearing sneakers isn't great.
The pain is mostly in the front, near the knee cap, which I think is strange. I've walked twice since the race, since I thought running was foolish, but I am becoming frustrated. I ice it, then use icy hot and wrap it.
Should I see my doctor? Is this a common thing? I feel like I shouldn't still have this issue.
Thank you all!
