It's very important to know your unique foot requirements, because there is no such thing as "one best shoe for all".

Be sure to go to a local running specialty store. (tip: stay away from Foot Locker) The good shops usually hire distance runners, and can even perform a gait analysis for you while you stride on a treadmill. This will ensure that you walk out of that store in the correct model, at the correct size — whether it's Asics, Saucony, adidas, Mizuno, or New Balance.
