I've just got a much coveted entry into the London Marathon next year. I am 48 and very fit - but not running fit! I spin 4 - 8 times a week (teach as well as participate), treadmill hill walk, cross train, Concept 11 row and weight train (Bodypump) - all to the max - 5 times a week but only run 4 - 6 miles a week at the moment as I have some heel pain. There are 20 weeks to the race - am I asking too much to train and be ready for a 4.30 - 5hr marathon in such a short time? I am upping my mileage from this weekend onwards - the furthest I have previously done is a half marathon (6 weeks training from 0 - 13 miles) and I've also suffered from stress fractures in my foot and ankle, so don't want to increase distsnce too quickly I desperately need some advice/encouragement - so any advise you can give will be taken onboard!!
