It depends on the particular marathon, the frequency of their water stations. Typical would be more like every 2 miles, so you should check on this. If you're carrying a fuel belt, you can refill your bottles at the water stations so you'll have water to drink in between stations. If you sweat alot, then you'll need to replace the lost fluids and make sure your salt levels are stable. Start drinking early even before you are thirsty... once you start feeling thirsty, it's too late. Good luck!
